Replacement Fuel Injectors for 4.0 2000 XJ

Hi,
I'm looking at replacing my fuel injectors in my 4.0 150k 2000 XJ. The trouble is that I am still unsure as to what ones would be suitable to replace the OEM ones with.
I am sure that they are dirty, and mismatched, as far as flow rate. I am also having the overheating issue with the stock ones, and it is of course, a royal pain.

Are these Ford motorsports 19lb injectors suitable, or do I need something else?

Injectors by year. If you want to do a direct replacement, compare specs.

FiveoMotersports does a decent job of getting close to what will work but may not be optimized. Perhaps the most important part, aside for getting in the right flow rate range, is getting a matched set.

So my main question is.....

How close do the "Replacement" injector's specs have to be to the original to be OK to use?

Since you have a 2000, you have the same problem I have. Everything is written for the old style EV1 connectors! I had a hard time realizing what was needed since not much info out there on what injectors to use for 99-01. Some of the late model Chrysler 2.4L 4cyl. engines use an EV6 injector that I think will be fine. They are usually sold used in batches of 4, so it's hard to get a set of six that are the same part #. Alternatively, you could get older Chrysler (neon) injectors and buy EV1 to EV6 connector adapters to run them. The cheapest I could find were about $50 for a set (splicing is free- but not reversible!).

I bought a set of 8 reconditioned of Ford 19# EV6 Bosch style off ebay for under $50- bright orange. I'm going to install them this weekend and respond here.

It's my (limited) understanding that you can connect any EV6 injectors and have them work, but you are trying to get optimized burn (4 hole) and a flow rate that matches the need of the engine. If you are not stroked out, I would stick to 19# injectors.

Ford Injectors Lbs/Color:

19's - White - E6EE-AB ( Low Impedance )
19's - Orange/Yellow top -
19's - Gold
19's - Yellow/Black
21's - Lavender - ( EV6 )
22's - Pink top ( EV6 )
23's - Black - E4EX-BA ( Low Impedance )
24's - Light bluish/gray top -

I think you want to go PINK.

No he doesn't.

If a ford injector is spec flow of 19# @ 39psi then that same injector will flow up to 23.87# @ 49psi in our 99-01 XJs. Anything more is overkill and will probably decrease your mileage a little.

I installed the 19# EV6 design III ford injectors. They work nice. It will take a few start cycles for the computer to learn them. On first start-up they run a little rich. There is definitely more accelerator response. Time will tell on any mileage increase.

Part number is 0280155917.

I look forward to hearing how they work out for you! :repair:

Well, not really. I keep having to disconnect my battery which resets the trip odo and also makes the computer relearn the engine and driving habits. I just reset the thing a few days ago and filled up again. I should have some data by next week, but from some initial observations mileage seems a little better.

Any updates on this? I'm at the point where I need to do the injectors on my 2000, and am debating doing the same (or a similar) swap while I'm in there. Would be interested in hearing how this went for you.

Not to derail the thread, but at around 150k miles, do you have a recent O2 sensor on your rig? Any changes on what's going into the engine may be moot point if the computer doesn't know what's coming out. Usually O2s are toast by 100k.

+1, I am in the same boat with my 01.

Do the 4 port injectors really improve MPG & Drive-ability?

OK guys, here's my observations so far. I recorded an ave. of 13.07 mpg with my last tank. My usual mpg is in the low 11s. I run 4.56s with 50-60% tread life 32" BFGs (new 33"s next month which will probably help a little), and recently did all the major tune up stuff. The current tank will be slightly better since I'm at more mileage with the gas gauge reading about the same. So mpg increase FOR ME is about 2. This will probably vary a lot depending on my driving. You see, my normal commute has me sitting with my junk in my hand waiting to cross a bridge over the Mohawk River. That's about 10-15, minutes of idle traffic 5 days a week. (F.U. Rexford bridge!)

My second observation is that these make the engine run smoother at idle and during acceleration. Gas pedal response is also snappier. I also recently upgraded the main wiring to 4awg. Let me tell you, THAT smoothed out the engine more than the injector upgrade.

Conclusion- Definitely worth it for the mileage increase alone. Hell, for under $50 shipped on ebay, it's a steal.

Good to know, and thanks for the update. If you could confirm that the picture below matches the 0280155917 injectors that you used (I know the number's right there; just want to be doubly-certain before ordering), I'd appreciate it:

BTW: I have the fuel economy / trip computer in the overhead console, and the speedo gear in my transfer case has been corrected for my tyre size. It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I order these courtesy of the weather, but once they're in I can do some economy testing here as well if anyone's interested.

That's them, although the plastic tips on mine are not the same color. Looks like that one went through a refurb.

Next upgrade: Overhead console when the temp is 50+.

Last update for me. I averaged 13.22 mpg with my last tank. Insignificant from the last tank measurement. So, my conclusion stands with a 2mpg or 18% increase in fuel economy.

Petroleum jelly-Vaseline.

You can soak them in fuel for a few hours instead.
