Renting a Wrangler - question about storage

I reserved a rental Wrangler in Maui and I was wondering if they had any kind of lockable storage? The Jeep site indicates an optional rear compartment for sport and rubicon models, but not the other models. I am not sure which model will be provided. I don't need much room, but enough to lock up a camera or two, maybe some other similar sized valuables while touring. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe, uh, call the rental company and ask. :laugh3:

the ones you get are the stripped down models, no lockable storage. Fun though. Make sure you take everything with you when you park it or someone else will help you with your bags for you. :)

We rented one in Maui also, but it was raining and we opted for a car instead. That Jeep didn't come with a top! There was no lockable storage in that Jeep.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The agent says they provide the sport model, and it does have the small lockable trunk behind the tailgate. It should suffice for my temporary storage needs. In the next sentence, the agent suggested it was a bad idea to keep any valuables in a car in Hawaii, even a locked trunk. I plan on heeding his advice. Cottontail, do you remember which company you rented from?

When we go to Maui, we rent an XJ from Adventures Rent-a-Jeep. 800-701-JEEP. They have several XJs, and wranglers of various years, and they're OK with off-highway use. Some of the jeeps are pretty beat, so they look more like something a beach bum would drive, rather than a tourist, but we still don't leave valuables inside, or lock the doors.
Here's what we rented last time...

I second that. Something about the license plates make it easy to identify which vehicles are rentals and are magnets for the down and out population which is rather large. Though Maui, I believe, is a bit more tranquil than Oahu for example.

Being in Hawaii and knowing of a lot of people who have lost possesions in their cars, you SHOULD NOT leave anything in your car or Wrangler in this case. For some reason there are quite a few thieves in Hawaii.
