Renix mj pcm failure

So I just bought a mj back that I had years ago not running I found it had no spark ended having a burnt up pcm so I soldered a jumper wire on the bored and it fired right up my question is what could of caused the pcm failure and where can I get the best replacement it’s a 88 4.0 manual mj

I got one from rock auto seems good for now
