OK, this past weekend I was unable to engage the front disconnect on my D30 front in my XJ.

The other guys I was with said I could replace it with the TJ setup. I am looking for a used / generic TJ setup but I was sent this link and the sale for chrome molly ones.

Do you know if this is a good price or can I do better or same and buy new locally?

Thanks in advance!!! http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=532155

If all you are worried about right now is the inability of the disconnect to engage there are ways of locking it into the engaged mode. I've been running my disconnect D30 that way for a year now.

Obviously the better solution is to run the big ujoint shafts. You can swap one piece axles into a disconnect housing but you will have to install a seal on the passenger side of the diff housing and remove the one just outboard of the disconnect.
You can also just swap in a complete 97-00 LPD30. Don't go with the '01, it's a high pinion.

OK, I am / want to do this so I can wheel :)

Is there any real deterant to doing this? It's not a daily driver but does see the road.

It won't affect street driveability at all. I recommend doing the swap to a one-piece shaft from a newer jeep, and then redoing the seal inside the disconnect. It is cheap, and a lot stronger than rigging your disconnect to stay locked.

BRaider thanks for the link I may be posting if I run into any glitches but it does look straight forward.

How did you plug or terminate the vacume lines??? just fold?

I did something like that on my '91 when I had it.
I just ran a bolt in each of the lines and zip-tied them. ;)
Maybe should have put a little silicone on the bolt but I didnt.
I didnt notice any leaks though.

That's backwards. The 01 is Low Pinion. You WANT the older high pinion!

Now I'm looking at a posi lock or cable actuator... if I can find one :)

Replaces the vacume with the cable. That way I can unlock it for easier steering when locked is not needed.

Amazing what these boards can provide !!!!

I've been running one of these for several years. It works well but sometimes takes some fiddlin' with to get it to engage. It was pretty much the first mod I made to my Jeep.

If you fold them they will break (they are plastic). I had some rubber caps that I picked up at the Auto parts place in the help section ($4.99 for a box I believe). It had multiple sizes and I used the ones that fit the lines on both the connectors and the vacuume pump on the axel for now, then used a wire tie to put the lines up above the axel out of the way. I had lost my FtWD after I left ur place last year when me and my grandson came to your BBQ and Meet n Greet. The hardest thing (for me anyways) was getting the C-clip off the shaft inside the housing, then it was a piece o cake to put back together.
