Hey all,

Looking to regear to 4.56s this summer, so I would like to save some headaches by finding a good shop/do-it-yourselfer to take the heep to. Any insight is appreciated. Im in Tuscarawas County, and am willing to drive an hour or more if necessary.

I dont know exactly where Tuscarawas is in ohio but i live outside of cleveland and whenever i need anything done to my jeep i goto on and off road 4wheel drive. Its run by a really nice guy and always will give you a decent price. I bought my lift and recovery points off him, he also has a little "test track" in his back yard with an RTI and mud pit and what not

its in oberlin not sure how far that is but here is the website if you wanna check it out

Bob's a cool guy, but last time I called the shop number it was disconnected.

Call before you go.

From where you're at it will probably be about a 2 hour drive, depending on where you're at in tuscarawas.

Let me know if you're headed up this way. I'm on your way at the junction of 250 and 511, I would be happy to head up there with you and make some introductions.
They do nice work at a reasonable price. I have a firend with a TJ that had a rear axle swap/leafs/gears done in his TJ. It turned out nice.

BL_95, I'm an hour from you, we should go wheeling.

Bookmarked for future use. Thanks macgyvr, BL_95, and 87manche. Im about 20 minutes south of canton in Dover. Usually takes me about an hour and a half to get to cleveland.

I am debating with myself whether I should do 4.56s or 4.88s. I keep reading mixed opinions. I figure maybe do 4.88s that way if I ever decide to go to 35s it wont be too bad. Im running 33x12.5s now, with no plans to go with a bigger tire, but you never know.

i have 33's and im planning on going to 4.88's no doubt. i would rather sacrifice speeds above 70mph and have a lower gearing but thats just me. and last i heard bob at on and off road closed up shop? that was just word of mouth though from a friend of mine who knows him well. im up in the cleveland area also, east side suburbs though. we should get a small meet and greet going on? valley view qsl maybe?

I didnt hear that he closed shop? wow last time i was there it seemed like he was swamped with business.. A m&g would be pretty cool im always down for good wings at qsl or even find a grill in the metroparks for some burgers and dogs and jeeps

cookout sounds even better to me! cheaper too haha. i just got a blue heeler puppy so im sure he would like a m&g at the park since he basically doesn't leave my side unless im at work or school

i would think 4.88's would be better around the city since it takes less to get up to speed, but highway as long as you keep to a reasonable speed i dont see why you wouldnt get good gas mileage as long as your easy on the throttle. driving from here to kansas city on 3.55's and 33's i was getting 18-20 mpg at times for a good stretch. there are a few threads debating 4.56's vs 4.88's, check them out. chris C854x4 or something like that, he lives not to far from me and has 4.56's on 34" LTB's and he told me to not even bother doing that gear ratio.

Thats the thread that is causing confusion with me. Some say 4.56s some say 4.88s. I guess I couldnt go wrong with either!

Around here the wheeling consists of mud and hill climbs. There is some off camber stuff, but no rocks. Ill keep scanning the thread.

If your looking to go over 31's it may not be a bad idea to upgrade and regear at the same time.

Ive been running 33s for a while now on stock gears, 29 spline 8.25, and of course HP D30. Its a 99 XJ. Unfortunately I dont think I will be able to afford more than gears and inner seals (college student). I dont wheel very often, and when I do I try not to be too hard on it. :D

important question though, i hope your not thinking of upgrading the d35? if thats what your xj has

Fortunately, I was blessed without one.

Heres the heep, and a buddy of mine.

i am SO SO SO jealous of your wheels. i want those really bad... thats a nice lookin rig man! i feel you on the money situation. i too am in college and trying to figure out what to do with the 1000$ i have saved for the jeep... gears and a front locker installed... or a trip to the outer banks with my girlfriend and puppy this summer.

My problem is that I dont have the money yet! I am hoping to get my job from last summer again (made about 2k). First I have to pay for the Rigid rear bumper and tire carrier, then the hunt for gears begins. And yeah I love the new wheels. I had black soft 8s before, and wasnt too happy with them after a while because they are so common. I see very few xj's running around with ar-23s.

For those that want to know.......

Bob (On and Off Road 4 Wheel Drive) has closed up shop do to personal reasons.........but if anyone really needs to get some work done by him let me know.

I'm not going to give out his Personal Number, but for those who a truly serious in getting work done buy him.
Bob might be able to work something out with you, but is not going to want to beat around the bush for something that falls thrue.
