Red Rocket

I'll help you out man.... didnt know you had known issues in the harness to the rear hatch.
We'll get it squared up soon enough.
Might not be till this weekend though.

Yeah I would start at that splicing job then, and the ground in the back like someone mentioned in the thread you started....

Also if its not too terribly hard I'd try to move the bumper enough to take the light boxes off just to see how the wiring looks.... You never know what may have happend back there

Brandon. Just completely remove the trailer harness and put it back to stock. Dont need it if you dont run led's or have a hitch

Well I followed the guidance I've gotten and it magically works! Haha I don't really understand why, but it does. I started by fixing those wires in the look that goes to the hatch. I cut then and then used some hear shrink butt connectors to get the wires back together,

Then I went on to refresh the ground behind where the spare tire is, was.

And then I refreshed the ground the battery that goes to the fender.

Anddddddd by doing all that my lights work correctly now!

And Aaron I have a hitch in my bumper so I gotta keep the trailer wiring.

Good you got it working! Amazing the chaos that some bad wires/grounds can cause!

Yea it is! I never would've thought a bad ground would do something like that! One thing that just got moved higher on the priority list is redoing all the grounds up in the engine bay

So today I did some maintenance I've been waiting to do since I got it. I dropped the transmission oil pan and changed the filter and cleaned up the pan real nice and then put it all back together. I've never done that before so it was cool to know what's underneath the oil pan!

I was happy to see they were only a little tiny bit of shavings stuck to the magnets.

And my old filter looked real clean still.

Little bit of water, and wha-la, a clean pan!

I made sure to dry it real good and make sure there were no pieces of cloth left in there, and then put it all back together.

And yesterday I resealed my front dif and freshened up the paint a little.

Andddddd much to my not happy discovery... As I was driving this evening my turn signal/brake situation started acting up again... When I have my left turn signal on and press the brake it stalls the turn signal. So I'm gonna buy a new flasher relay and out that in. But besides that, I'm just gonna do more grounds and take out those trailer hitch wires. Anyone else got any suggestions on what else to do?

You've got a good plan of action, once you take out the trailer wiring, and swap out the flasher relay, you'll have a much better idea of whats going on.

Well well well, the PO did some pretty janky wiring on this rig. Pretty much the worst I've ever seen! They didn't even cut and splice the wires, they just stripped back the rubber and wound the new wire around the exposed section and then hastily put electrical tape over it. Here's some pics to prove it!

And I replaced that braided steel ground cable with a 2 gage that I had.

After doing the wiring on those tail lights they worked correctly! So I'm happy :)

That's why I suggested getting those light boxes off, some ppl do weird sketchy shit....
Lol glad you got it figured out.... Again...

Luckily I have never ran into it personally, which is amazing considering I'm on cherokee #6, but I've had several friends that have had crazy hacked stuff like that!

Rock slides look very nice! I don't remember if you mentioned it (probably did) but what size tires are you running?

Thanks man, I'm really happy with how close the sliders are to the body. And I have 33x12.5's on.

That's pretty amazing you haven't found any crazy stuff yet if it's number 6 for you!

A few days ago I did the cut n fold on the rear quarter panels. So today I decided to clean things up a little tonight

I'm thinking I'm also going to do part of the doors black. And then I'm also going to do that same rim around the front wheel wells too. I ran out of time tonight.

Looks great! I need to do the same....

Funny thing about that light situation is I had a friends cherokee at my shop yesterday and he had the exact same 'wiring' issue. Someone tried to make their own 'trailer light harness' and just made an awful mess. Thank goodness I've never ran into that, I just have every other cherokee 'issue' lol
