Red Jeeps reincarnation

Anyone got an extra clock spring kicking around? Getting a sticker soon and need this airbag light gone. The airbag module was already relocated under the center console and looks fine to me so I'm assuming its a bum clock spring.

Also thinking about dropping it down an inch or so and getting some new RE leafs and coils to get rid of the last of my rough country junk. Would need to put the front shocks through the inner fender into the engine bay but cant decide if its worth it or just to keep it around 4.5. Definitely cant get down to 2 in to be legal but i figure somethings better than nothing :dunno:

Wow we have almost the same jeep lol. d44/9in, full frame stiffeners, and replaced rockers with box steel and tied to frame. The vent windows are next on my list, how hard was it to get the rear windows out without damaging the window seal?

Haha I know I got so jealous when I saw you picked that thing up, beautiful rig! Would be awesome to get a shot of the both of them on the trail this summer. The window seal was a PITA, tried a couple different strategies to get it in there but got impatient and frustrated and just pushed it through inch by inch with a flathead screwdriver. Split the rubber slightly a couple times but nothing horrible, no leaks so far.

So whenever I shift gears or pop it into neutral I kept feeling a massive thump and ratcheting sound coming from the rear end. Thought it was a ****ed tranny mount/ something slapping the driveshaft or a ujoint on its way out but just took it out for a spin again and looked back out the window and saw the drivers rear tire completely lock up and start sliding shifting out of 3rd, not sure if its both at the same time though. No issues with constant pressure on the throttle, only when i pop it into neutral. Not sure if its just the fact that the roads are snowy or if im just a newb when it comes to lockers but anyone know whats going on here? Makes coming to a stop sketchy and feels like somethings going to go boom

autolockers do weird ass things in the snow. I've never driven one with a manual so idk if thats the cause, but whenever I hit the brakes and one tire locks it ratchets, bumps, jumps, whatever. happened on my 8.25 and 44 in my 93, and that 60.

Those are my old axles so I won't cover anything up about it, but they are supposed to be 35 spline aftermarket c-clip 60 shafts. The fun part about that is, there is no c-clip 35 spline D60 auto locker on the market. Now, theres definitely an auto locker in there, no doubt about that.. but to be honest I have no idea whats inside. I planned on getting the ruffstuff full float kit and throwing an OX in there. Something to think about.

Yeah auto lockers in a stick shift vs in an automatic vehicle will behave differently. Im assuming that if you're down shifting its sending power to both wheels and causing the locker to lock.
Ill attempt to shift my truck into neutral when stopping tomorrow and report back to you, since I have auto lockers too, detroits tho.

Thanks guys, it happens mainly when I throw it into neutral and coast for a while. It will lock up and slide for a couple seconds, work itself out, then lock up and ratchet again and continue till I throw it back into gear. Go figure.

On another note I'm over thinking the shit out of the 35s or 37s debate. Just not sure if risking blowing up the 44 is worth the bump up in highway speed on 37s. I'm probably at around 3k-3500 rpm at 60-70 and considering I drive long distances I'm not sure how long my tired 4.0 would last at those rpms. But at the same time if I broke something in the front end far from home I'd better have spare shafts with me or else I'm ****ed. I'll also hopefully be getting a truck within the year. Should probably just stick with 35s but idk. I hate decisions

Go 37s. I know you have a heavy foot but those axles have outer seals which will hold the axle in place if you snap a shaft so you won't take out the ball joints, and those shafts have a 10 year warranty. You also don't need a spare shaft to get home. unlock the hubs, drive home and pull them when you feel like it. My plan was to go to 37s and see what happens... If i kept blowing shafts I'd sell the alloys and get RCVs.

awesome, completely forgot those things are warrantied. Guess we'll see what happens!

don't be a puss

Thats reason enough for me

I'll sell you some 37's ;)

find me some MTRs!!!! They're on national back order till april and the only ones on craigslist have 60%ish tread for like 1400. Meh.

Tested out the coast with my lockers, no noises or locking up...

hmmmm weird. It still happens occasionally but very randomly and not enough to be a huge concern, especially once the snow melts. Go figure

Figured out the locker issue. Pretty sure my drivers side rear caliper is starting to seize up, put it in neutral and pushed it and heard squealing and rubbing from the caliper, and have been hearing a squeaking noise at low speeds coming from there. Guess it has enough bite to lock up the wheel on slippery roads and engage the locker.

Call up Adam and scream at him.

Update time. Been dding the jeep for the past couple months and and really happy with how well it rides. Been having some dumb problems here and there but whatever, just happy to be doing jeep things again :D

not so fun things: got flat, drove up to nh, stopped at the nh state liquor store, tried to start it, got nothing, looked under the jeep and the starter was just hanging by the wires....sheared the lower bolt and I guess the upper backed out. Go figure. Had to replace the caliper and pads on the 60, and lastly I hate rear driveshafts. Blew out the adaptor that connects the DC to the hack n tap and had to go down to providence to find one. Still have play where the stub shaft slides onto the main shaft but it hasnt blown up yet again so we'll see what happens.

fun things: jcr quarter panel stuff, bunch of 3 link stuff, traction bar stuff, boostwerks steering box brace stuff, frame stiffy stuff, new brake caliper and pads, grand cherokee fan clutch, and some other stuff

grand cherokee fan clutch vs stock fan clutch

had to use some tape to keep the nut from getting lost in some of the tight corners

used the white back up lights so had to get 2 of the trailer boxes and wire those in but didnt take too long, really happy with the outcome
