Recovery?

Just another reminder about Hi Lifts. I love mine, and have used it to move small buildings, etc. but you must remember that the handle is directly connected to everything. If you miss a notch on the way up, it will flip up. When you start down, it will flip up with prodigious force and velocity. It's easy to lose control. For all its virtues, it's a dangerous tool. Always be prepared to jump back and let everything go.

I have a nice loop-ended nylon strap from Tractor Supply, which has extracted a couple of pretty hefty vehicles from snowbanks over the years without damage. Just make sure you don't make knots that can't be untied after being tightened by a couple of large vehicles.

Okay well I've decided that I'm going to purchase a hi-lift, but my question is where did you guys mount yours? I'm deciding whether or not I should get a 48 or 60 inch one but I just don't know where I would put the 60" one.

i love my hi lift jack, it works great when have all four wheels hung up in ruts jack it up and throw whatever you can find in the bush to put under the tires

The Hilift has worked great the 2 or 3 times I have bent my wheel. It was much better after a full day on the trail then breaking out the dinky OEM one. If you haven't used one before try it out in your Driveway. I think there is still the Video floating around on the internet of the guy that wasn't paying attention...handle slipped and knocked him in the head (they say he died). Be very careful, when you try it out you will feel right away that it would NOT be a good thing to have it slip out of your hands and hit you.

i have had a hilift handle catch me under the jaw (was 12 and unjacking a piece of farm equipment) it hurts like a BITCH!!!! i was lucky i only came away w/ a sore jaw, loose teeth, and a bit tongue, it coulda been a lot worse.

Could check out http://www.dpgoffroad.com/tech/interior-mnt.html for the writeup they did. It looks pretty easy and a quick way to secure most of the stuff you're getting. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. If I don't have a cooler I usually strap it down diagonally using the tiedowns in the TJ. Unless you plan on putting huge tires or a big lift, you could probably go with a the 48. I am pretty sure I have the 48. If I wake up early enough I might see how well it fits in the cargo area.
