recovery FAIL

thought i would post this over here... i saw it on wranglerforum.com and i dont know how old this is... but man is this guy the darwin of the century award winner... somehow he isnt dead so dont worry too much...(though im thinking the world might be better off without him)

Last jeepin death I heard of was two recovery straps joined by a shackle about four years in Pennsylvania(?). Something broke and the stretched strap hurled the shackle into the drivers head. Killed em. Wife was right there. Kid was further down the trail in someone else's rig.

Not a year goes by when I have to yell at somebody for trying to extend recovery straps with something heavy like a shackle. You don't attach heavy metal to stretchy stuff that breaks.

I heard you can loop one strap through another with something light, like a stick, and it'll keep them from seizing on each other so you can take em apart after the recovery. Haven't tried that one.

I have been around recovery equipment since I was 6 years old . I have never seen somebody that stupid :gee:

Are you talking about the guys that were playing after a mud event, and it was posted on here? If so I think that was in the midwest and he was friends with the guy who posted it. Yes you can put a stick in between two straps. I've done it several times.
