If you go to www.crutchfield.com they can tell you what will fit without modding and what will not. Just looked,.... they say 5-1/4" all around.

I've had mine for about a year now and they never let me down. They thump well for tight, crisp bass, the tweeters will make you wish your ears weren't there, and they all around sound AWESOME. They are frequently used in sound quality comps, so you know they are good. I got a deal on mine, but if you find them retail, prepare to pay a lil' more than you would for the other brands. By a lil', I mean a lot.
If I had it to do over again- I would, no doubt in my mind.

I bought two sets of the Pioneer TS-G1340Rs at Wal-Mart for something like $34 per pair when the front speakers blew in my 2000. Quite honestly, I had every intention of replacing them with a set of Infinity 5002is later on, which I've used for years and like rather a lot.
Nine months later, I've still got the Pioneers installed and have no intention of replacing them. With both the factory stereo and (later) an aftermarket Alpine unit, the sound quality is surprisingly good considering what they cost. They're aren't audiophile-grade by any means, but work extremely well.

I'll tell you this, you can go to circuit city and buy a $15 pair of crap factory replacements, and the will sound 99% as good as a $300 pair of the best you can find IF you are using the stock headunit. Speakers really require an external amp of at least 30 RMS watts per channel to shine, otherwise, the radio, not the speaks, is the limiting factor. Also, upgrading to 6.5 from 5.25 will not make a noticable difference, especially without said external amp. You will never get great bass from door speakers. With all this said, I have compared some reputable brands, and found infinity to be the best built and best sounding. I think you can get a good pair that will last another 8 years or more for under $100.

I actually didn't have any audio plans at all, and somehow I ended up spending more than 2 weeks pay on this project
My initial intent was simply to rip out the carpet, repair any rust necessary, and waterproof with herculiner.
After the interior was gutted, I realized that this would be my last chance to add sound deadening, so I went to the lowes and picked up some peel-n-seal, and started installing. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69670
After covering the entire rear deck area, I was doing more web surfing, and discovered, via http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ , that using asphalt based roofing material was perhaps a bad idea :banghead:
I went to secondskinaudio.com and ordered some damplifier (butyl deadener) and their firewall (a new liquid deadener that ought to be similar and superior to Cascade R-blox, which AJ recommended in a thread I found). Secondskin is having some growing pains right now, so service may not be instantaneous, but the owner really seems to go the extra mile and I have faith in their product (wayyy nicer than peel-n-seal). I can't tell you that a different company isn't cheaper/better/faster/different, but I did my research and I will say that I am quite happy with my choice.

I almost bought infinity reference based on recommendations in this forum, but at the last minute, I went to CC and listened to the set, and they just sounded awful to me. The mid had no definition, the highs were too quiet, and the sub was muddy and headache inducing.
Soooo I trucked on over to the sounddomain.com forums, did a lot of searching, and after asking a couple questions, I bought the CDT EF-61 NEO

For the sub, I couldn't pass up $60 shipped for a 10" RE and got in on the Resonant Engineering http://www.reaudio.com group buy (which IIRC goes through the end of Dec.). It's supposed to be a heck of a deal for the price (emphasis on quality rather than loudness), and about $80 less than my next choice, so after already being so far in the hole for what was supposed to be a simple herculiner job, I went with RE. I won't link the GB in case it is against forum rules, but you can probably google it if you are interested.
Though I am going to have one heck of a time getting it to fit stealthily, I couldn't find a cheaper sub than a refurbed viper http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2657 for about half the price of any comparable new 5 channel (or the cost of a 4 channel + a mono), I can drive all 5 speakers. The CDT's won't get as much juice as they are capable of taking, but I don't listen at extreme volumes anyway, so it should all be good.
Picked up my wiring kit and battery terminals at http://www.knukonceptz.com. The wiring looks good, but the top post on the battery terminal won't fit my existing 1/0 gauge lugs (upgraded power). I'll have to check and see if they have large lugs with small rings that will fit.
Anyway, that's my really long story that doesn't have an ending yet. While I spent a bit more than I initially intended, I'm convinced that I managed to find the best bang for the buck.

I'm planning on some Infinity Reference 5 1/4" ones for my '98, I heard them a couple of weeks back and they sound pretty nice (and a whole lot better that what my OE's do now!)
EEEEGHGHGHGHG Wrong. They will sound fine if you listen to WBAP all the time. But get into music and its a whole different ball game.Your OEM speakers can blow out with the power from the head unit. My Infinity's cant, so I never have to worry about how loud it gets. I like knowing that personally. Plus the sound quality is the same no matter how loud. Stockers will get distorted when turned up to loud. So yes, if all you listen to is talk raido then all you need is Stockers, But if you are into music get somthing that will last twice as long and sound way better!Jackhill442 said:

If you ever wanna play louder than the typical humdrum of the radio, you will thank yourself for the investment.

I'm with Jackhill - Infinity reference was my first choice, (but not my first choice for bank friendly speakers)
I went with POLK DB speakers, they're pretty tough (i'm running about 40 watts to em constantly) But I added an 8inch bazooka sub with a 350 watt kenwood amp just so I could "feel" the music more.
the rear hatch of a cherokee is a 5 1/4 inch speakers worst nightmare, the woofer cone has too much freedom to move since the amount of area in the "grooves" where the speaker sits is more Ideal for a 6x9.
To solve the free speaker issue I cut some 1/4 inch plywood squares out and sanded them down until they fit on the open sides of the speaker, then I hot glued them in place - I get a lot better sound quality(mostly bass quality) out of the rearend 5.25's now
6.5's will fit in the front door without alot of choppin of the metal - my friends jeep had worn out 6.5's in it, the cage of the woofer cone just sits Pretty Tight.

But how is the sound quality at 40watts? Polks are ok, better then stockers. And if you aren't a hardcore music listener and just like to enjoy it sometimes, there are a lot of midrange price, watt and quality aftermarket speakers that will work fine. Do you guys still recommend Infiniti even IF you just want to run the speakers off you head unit? I have an aftermarked Pioneer Head Unit that is 40 watts X4.

That 40W is max power, not RMS. If you run component speakers, Infinitys or not, you'll need to buy an amp. Running components on 40W max output will make them sound less than good.fdsa487 said:
I run 150W to each component in my system. Contrary to popular belief, running more Watts per speaker doesn't necessarily mean it will just get louder, but will also increase sound quality to an extent. Running more Watts means it will be more responsive, thus picking up more detail.

Just get some Pioneers. I had them in my last XJ running off of my stock head unit and my Pioneer head unit. The Pioneer head unit sounded better, but the stock unit didn't sound bad.fdsa487 said:
