Rebound control.

After watching a few Jeeps grab some air. It's obverse that some control the bounces much better then others. Some look like rubber balls when they land whereas others just nail it down.
I had a look under a few rigs and can see no major difference in them.
Could someone please enlighten this long time go slower as to the difference?
Thanks!

How the bumpstops are setup and shock valving. A stiffer rebound stack will let the suspension pack-up through whoops but would help control a bumpstop that is really bouncy. Stiffer compression stack would not let the suspension cycle as fast on fast bumps it could help with large huck controll... Etc.

Two different types of shock valving, namely Rebound and Compression. Compression valving controls how fast you use your up travel through big and little bumps. Rebound controls your down travel and how fast your suspension droops out. Is the suspension bottoming out on hard hits when it bounces? If so, it's probably a sign of too little of both compression and rebound. If you're not bottoming out, your compression is probably good and just need more rebound to control the expanding of the springs.

Thanks!
I played in the sand box many year ago but didn't keep up with things.
The control the new buggies have now just blow my mind. I think I will play again.

Rebound valving is a fine line. You need to get it soft enough that it lets the suspension drop and follow the terrain, but not so soft that the springs unload uncontrollably. Too stiff and the suspension will stack, or not rebound fast enough, and you run out of travel. I'm glad we have Joel from Bilstein on our side because he knows where that fine line is.
