A friend told me about putting another t case in front of the 231.I think he said it was a 205? that could be used.

The front t case would only have low gear, while the 231 would have hi,and low range.

I think that's how he explained it. The front t case would be shifted in and out as needed.

Does anyone know about this,or actually have it in an xj?

his rig was a toyota... :repair:

Search for Klune-V. Its a low range box that uses the planetary set from a NP t-case in a seperate aluminum case. It sandwiches between your trans and existing t-case.

Oh,ok. I see how that works.

The way I would do it would have to be home brewed. really......cheap... :repair:

can you say atlas?

Blah blah blah... sure it's bling and beefy, but you don't get the added gearing choices of having a crawl box in front of the T-case. I like the idea of having a veritable forest of levers to choose from, now to get the financial approval for said device from wifey.
