Really good gas mileage

My jeep: 97, 4.0 / AX-15 / 200,300 miles.

People find it hard to believe, but im getting way better gas mileage than what Jeep advertised it at, and better than most other stock XJ owners get.

I live in Virginia but still go back to my "home" in Connecticut very often, so I make the 550 mile drive up 95 in my cherokee. I put 18 gallons in it, and routinely get 25mpg on these highway drives.

Have you ever considered deleting your account and hiding forever?

On my recent interstate trip from VT to GA and back (a little over 1000 miles each way), my 99 4.0 with AX 15 averaged approximately 23 mpg or maybe a tad more. Allowing for error in only a few tankfuls and the lower mileage running around town when there, I'll say 23 though it came close to 24 part of the time. About as good as it's ever done. Traffic was pretty steady and fast, no big jamups, new spark plugs, no mechanical issues, and no bikes on roof, etc.

my old 5spd renix got really decent gas mileage, especially since i switched from a fullsize cv*vy van, and it felt like a honda when i filled it up for $25 and it lasted 2 weeks! that all went away once i regeared and put 32's on it with a 4.5" lift. now i have a stock renix, with an automatic, and i'm rockin ~3.5-4" of lift on 30's. i don't know if it's cuz i'm dd'n a subaru that gets really great mileage or what, but my xj waggy definitely sucks the gas. the guy i got it from said he was gettin about 12mpg in town completely stock. i filled it up, and drove from nashville to memphis and it took a whole tank.

I believe that the mileage drop happened at the time ETHANOL appeared; and that the injector cleaner added at the same time was unrelated!

96 ax-15 235s

super happy she gets 18-19 on the highway.
otherwise she gets 16 mixed driving.
saw 360-375 miles on a tank ONCE. She sputtered at the curb of the gas station.

One time 9 she ran out of gas on me. Did gauge cluster swap was unfamiliar that empty was really empty. Old idiot gauges, i could run her WAY below the "E" line. Nine miles from my destination, she ran out of gas. Once she had juice, no problems restarting her.

Every Jeep is unique to itself and alot of things can affect gas mileage.
Mine is a '98 4.0L w/ NP231, AX15 and 124K miles.

The best gas mileage that I recorded (23-24 mpg) was on a trip from San Diego, CA to the Grand Canyon shortly after purchasing the Jeep new....
Now with 5.5" lift, 33" tires, 4.56s and the addition of 450 lbs (front & rear bumpers, tire carrier, rock rails, skid plates and cargo rack) the Jeeps gas mileage (13-17 mpg); depends upon highway conditions, air temperature, weight of cargo, elevation and traveling speed.
