I was wondering if anyone has dynos or real world experience with a hi flow after market muffler (cats on) and K&N intake, preferaby on a stock 96 inline 6, 4.0. I would like to see if there are any gains in HP and TQ (mainly TQ).

I tried looking it up using search but always end up with someone posting about doing it on his turboed, stroked or camed jeep with a ton of other mods.

Thanks

why would someone dyno a jeep?

actually theres a couple online 4x or jeep magazines that have done bolt ons an dyno'd don't remember which but I came up with the articles on google before.

Why would anyone dyno a Jeep? I guess to know if you are just wasting time and money with your mods. I like the power I have now but if I ever throw some bigger tires on there I would still like it to move.

Boredom...

For reference, I'll usually go to K&N's or Magnaflow's websites and see what they show on their dynos. It can be a good way to get a rough idea of how a mod will affect the engine. I think the Magnaflow exhaust shows a ~7whp increase and about the same for the K&N. Besides peak power, you can see where else in the power band gains were made and think about whether they will be useful for you. IE - does an intake increase torque in the low-mid range or only the top end where you'll rarely use it? When I need power going over mountain passes loaded up with camping stuff, I don't use OD and will be cruising in the 22-2400rpm range with 2nd gear downshifts to 33-3800rpms (very rough guess and probably going over 4k if I need to speed up on a grade). So if a mod isn't going to help out in that range, it doesn't do me much good.

But yeah, dyno'ing the Jeep before and after mods can be a valuable tool to get your powerband where you want it. Dyno's are not just for bragging rights.
