Those of you who have a RE HnT, I've got a few questions for ya. I picked up a used HnT from a buddy of mine awhile back. I think it's missing a piece or two, but I wanna be sure. This is what I got from him:

On the flange, there's a spring that goes in the hole, but isn't there supposed to be some sort of ball as well? Is this part rebuildable?

Also, how does this flange go about fitting to the driveshaft I have. I got a front ds out of a '98 XJ: 4.0L, AW4, NP242. Does the flange with the u-joint take the place of the final u-joint?

Also, anybody happen to know what kinda compressed/extended lengths I'm looking at for my driveshaft with 4.0L/AW4/NP231/ChryCo 8.25 on a 3-3.5" lift? Curious as to if I need to get this driveshaft modified.

Your shaft will most likely need shortening. The pic you have of the two yokes side by side is exactly how it goes. The flange style replaces the regular bolt style yoke. And its all there. The "ball" you are revering to is the part with the roller bearings. The spring goes in there. If you could come down to Doraville (Buford Hwy exit off 285 east) this coming weekend (I'll be there helping with Thehardstruggler's (Tim) fence) I could help you put the driveshaft together, those Double cardans are hard to build, so a helping hand might be needed for you.

The spring pushes on the peg that sticks out off of the yoke that is welded to the driveshaft.

Yup Matt it replaces the last Ujoint in the double cardon setup. Sounds like u already know that now though.

FYI, I'm using non-shortened XJ front shaft in the rear of my setup which is the same setup as yours but with SYE instead of H&T. No TC drop either. No clue on how much longer the H&T setup is though......

Hmm... Might see what Driveshaft Services would charge to rebuild the shaft. I know they did all our custom work when I worked at 4WP, and always did good jobs.

It was around a buck n a half when we got a front TJ fully rebuilt. It had a case mad sparrow! It was also reasonable when I had one shortened.

You shouldn't need to shorten the driveshaft at all....i'm running the exact same set up with a RE 3.5" lift (sits 4-4.5") using a 98 AW4 front driveshaft that's regular length.

And FYI, last time I rebuilt a front driveshaft on a TJ (same set up), that little centering ball kit was an expensive little bugger...~$70 IIRC...maybe a tad more than that, and it was only available at a driveshaft shop in the area.

Yea, I've got a used RE 3.5" SF lift that I'm gonna be putting on.

That is an expensive lil' bugger. We'll see what they say.

You can get a rebuild kit for the CV at O'Reillys. They run ~$40. I have done a few of them.
