Radio wiring question

I did a search on radio wiring and I found a post with the speaker wires for an 89. Does anyone have the speaker wire colors for a 93, or are they about the same. I'm installing a new radio and I don't have the money to get one from Crutchfield right now.

Thanks for the help

Tony

One way to find out which wires go with each speaker is to hold the bare end of a wire to a post on a 9 volt battery. Then one by one, touch the bare end of each of the other wires to the other post. There will be a scratchy static sound when you've found the mate. Oh yeah, be sure to have the power wires already figured out before hand so as not to short anything.

i will look for the manual for my head unit. it has the wire colors in it i think
(mines a 90)

If I recall the wiring diagram in the manual is a convoluted mess... if you can wait until Monday, I'll post the colors and what they connect to on an aftermarket stereo.

I have this documented for a '91 with all the power options; including illumination dimmer, power antenna and four speakers ... but it's on my PC at work.

I did this because the first time I had my OEM stereo replaced the idiot had the R/L speakers reversed ... and the illumination dimmer wouldn't work when flipping on the headlights.

I had to rip the thing apart and rewire it ... so I wrote it down for future reference.

The code is on the bottom of the factory stereo! Gives pin #'s and their use.

If you get a harness addaptor, it will tie into the back of aftermarket deck harness, then plugs in where stock deck pluged into. When you pull the deck to replace with stock, pull the harness added, and plug stock deck back in. Don't by off the shelf kit, not same. If you go to Best Buy, go to the install bay and ask for the harness there at service counter.

I second the use of the harness adapter. Although I imagine the 9v battery trick does work. I bought my harness adapter about 4 years ago off the shelf at Best Buy, and it worked fine. It saves alot of time and works with any aftermarked stereo you buy. I'm afraid I don't rmember the wire colors since I've re-wired all 4 speakers with new wire and hooked them up to an amp on my 94. Good luck, I hope your speakers are in better condition than mine were when I bought it.

Having installed audio gear for 20 years I'd say wait a week if you have to but DON'T cut up the harness. When you do decide to re do the mess it makes you will spend the whole time asking yourself "why did I do this?" I charge $20 extra to fix it when I do an install and they want their mess fixed. They usually cut it off soo far in the dash that I need to use special tools I've created for such an "emergency". My .02 FWIW
Good luck

Found my head unit book. If I remember correctly, the stock wires are the same(i used a harness though) so maybe do one quick "battery test". Here it is according to my book.
Blue--------------Power Antenaa
Blue/White--------Amp/Equilizer
Pink/Black---------Vehicle phone
Red---------------ignition key
Yellow------------battery
Black--------------Ground
Gray--------------FR +
Gray/Black---------FR -
Violet/Black-------RR -
Violet-------------RR +
Green-------------RL +
Green/Black-------RL -
White/Black-------FL -
White-------------FL +
hope this helps a little.
I also second the wire harness. In my brothers old car, the previous owner decided to cut......and cut.....and cut.....and mangled the setup. Keep it simple

Please note, the info I'm posting is quite different than the wiring info in the above post. This is from a 1991 Cherokee Laredo to an aftermarket head unit. I currently have an Alpine ... I wouldn't waste my money on another Kenwood.

JEEP ---> KENWOOD:

light blue/red [illumination relay] ---> None

dark green/red [Power Antenna] ---> [Motor Antenna] blue

orange/black [Intrument Illumination] ---> [Dimmer Control] orange/white

violet/white [Ignition] ---> [Ignition] red

pink [Battery] ---> [Battery] yellow

black [Ground] ---> [Ground] black

SPEAKERS:

(A) dark green [Left Front] ---> [Left Front] white (+)

(B) brown/red [Left Front] ---> [Left Front] white/black (-)

(A) violet [Right Front] ---> [Right Front] gray (+)

(B) dark blue/red [Right Front] ---> [Right Front] gray/black (-)

(A) brown/yellow [Left Rear] ---> [Left Rear] green (+)

(B) brown/light blue [Left Rear] ---> [Left Rear] green/black (-)

(A) dark blue/white [Right Rear] ---> [Right Rear] purple (+)

(B) dark blue/orange [Right Rear] ---> [Right Rear] purple/black (-)
