Quiet exhaust

A baffle appears to have come loose in my current muffler and it is restricting the flow.

Any recommendations besides just going to the local carquest and getting a stock replacement muffler?

I have listened to clips of several flowmasters. 40s way to loud, 50 DF still sounds pretty loud in the clips.

I put a dynomax system on a 93 ZJ I had and it was really annoyingly loud but it didn't have a cat on it either so that could have affected it some.

What else is out there for a decent price? Or is a 50DF really not that bad?

This is my DD XJ and I don't want to have to listen to it driving down the highway.

91 XJ with 4.0L BTW

I have dynomax 2.5". Strong tone, not loud. Now have headers and sounds better. I found cat back for little over $100

I have the Magnaflow Catback and highflow cat w/a Banks header and it has a nice rumble when I get on it and at intial take off but at highway speeds it is quieter than stock.
So my vote goes w/Magnaflow.:shhh:

BTW. My exhaust was in very good shape when I took of, no holes or anything like that.

If you thought your DynoMax was loud I would stick with stock exhaust.

Yeah I read that you didn't have a cat, I figured most people have a cat therefore I thought it was a very quiet exhaust system. Some people didn't even know I had exhaust that rode with me when I had the DynoMax, I took it out and bought a 40 Series Flowmaster which is falling apart after 3 years. The muffler is getting little cracks where they welded the baffles inside, never seen that before. Any ways it's all personal preference, not sure what else is quieter than a Dynomax besides a stock type muffler. Maybe Magnaflow, like Rypla said.

The dynomax I had came in the cat back kit I bought from summit. You could hear me a mile away if I was on the gas. very very raspy and loud.

the cat fell apart inside so I just pulled it. I haven't taken my current system apart yet to inspect it so for all I know that could be my current problem as well. The guts of the cat plugged the muffler.

I have a flowtech afterburner on my offroad XJ with no cat. It actually sounds pretty good, just a mellow sound with no raspyness to it. That muffler is tough as nails to, have used it as a skid for a few years and it just has some small dents in it. $40 VS double that for a flowmaster.
Maybe with a cat still in the system I would like it on my DD rig.

You can fit a flowmaster 70 on it. Thats what I did because th 40\50 was too loud for my tastes.. Sounds nice. Improved over stock and tough.

I have the Flowmaster 70 on mine as well. Use a 2 1/4" tailpipe to avoid droning, other than that it's nice.

I've had both a 40 and 50 series on mine and I noticed no difference between them. The 50 may have a slightly different tone but it is just as loud. I would go back to stock. I'm stock without a cat and it's just about right, just a touch too loud. I think if I had a high flow cat and stock system I would be tickled.

I have a magnaflow of some sort and it sounds like an angry chainsaw, I hate it.
Yours must be broken, because I too have a Magnaflow "Of some sort" On my ThumperXJ, and it sounds kick ass, AND its waaayyy quieter than the Noisemaster that I bought it with.
