Quick Long Arm Question

Any reason?

Poly doesn't offer proper bushing flex for extreme articulation, and yet it is not as rigid as a spherical bearing joint (johnny joint/heim). If you are going to have two "uppers", you want rubber to get proper bushing deflection or you are going to have suspension bind. If you are going to have one upper, use a spherical joint for unrestricted motion and maximum forward stability. Poly is not the best choice for either of these purposes.

Poly is fine for removing the slop of aging rubber bushings onroad (at the cost of NVH), but offroad the required flex will destroy the poly bushings because they cannot handle the required deflection. About the only place I would consider poly on an XJ is the upper shackle mount.

Thanks for all the advice. Because I will be running only one UCA I ordered two more RE large Superflex joints. This should take care of the problem. I will be running the large superflex joints in both ends of my LCA's and a small RE superlex joint in my UCA frame mount.

Thanks

Running only one upper, which side do you run it on? Driver or Passenger?

If on Driver side, do you have to buy the expensive JJ kit they sell for the mount on the axle, or is there an alternative that doesn't require a lot of fab work?

Mine will be on the drivers side and I am using the factory axle mount until it wears out.

i was told that if you run a 3 link setup (clayton long arm's) that you dont need a trac bar?? or is it the 4 link?

is this true?? and why?

poly belongs on a parrots name tag, not on a Jeep.

You could try slicing some pool noodles into bushing size chunks.

I actually did that once, I used the boat bumper things but the same idea. The local auto shops didn't have any bushings and wouldn't have any in for a couple days and my UCA bushings on the axle side were toast. It worked for a little while untill I could get the new bushings but when i took them out the poly was ripping/deforming from the jeep flexing.
