i'm installing some shims and was wondering how tight to tighten the center pins. I didn't know if there was a certain torque setting or not.

Thanks

i just got on em...the shims didnt have a recessed area for the head, so the bolt bent a little at the head. you want them tight so that the shim cant slip around at all. I guess that the u-bolts kinda do that job..MHO

Just tight enough to keep the spring pack together, and not much more. You want to compress the spring just enough to get them in contact at the pin. Once the u-bolts are torqued, they hold the pack together, and the pin keeps the pack on the perch.

The LAST thing you want is to pop that pin!

well, i tightened them down pretty well. the shim does not move at all, but i also was just using a 3/8" wrench to tighten them, no torque wrench. do you suppose i should loosen then some? if so, how far would i need to go to just loosen them. just loosen the ubolts just enough to get a wrench in or what?

Sounds like you've done the right thing. As long as you're not stretching the center bolt, you're fine.
