Question on Co gun laws.

So we are leaving today to head to Silverton and I was going through my wallet and noticed that I neglected to renew my CCW permit (oops)

I still plan on packing my pistol but I'm curious if Colorado has any weird laws about this. It's a Ruger 45 eight rounds. If it's visible and there isn't a round in the chamber am I good?

We are an open carry state, as I understand it in your vehicle you are good to go.

I hope yells can clear this up as I want to add a console holster in my rig.

pm sent.
as a side note, if your travels take you through Denver be cautious with their laws vs rest of state. Had a friend slammed around for being legal per state but not Denver.

No Denver this trip. From Utah to Grand Jct and south. We will never see the continental divide.

That's for the info btw.

"A permit is not required to carry a handgun where carrying firearms is legal, if the handgun is not concealed. A handgun is not considered concealed if it is in the possession of a person who is in a private automobile or other private means of conveyance who is carrying it for a legal use, or the handgun is in the possession of a person who is legally engaged in hunting activities within the state"

"It is unlawful to have a firearm other than a handgun in or on any motor vehicle unless the chamber is unloaded."

Round in the chamber is ok in Colorado.

Open carry on person, and in car is ok except for city limits of Denver.

If you get stopped and you have it on your hip, let the cop know. He shouldn't disarm you but he may ask that you secure it in the glove box or trunk during your interaction. You don't have to....... but it's a step toward a warning for the traffic violation if you don't get all uppity and argue about it (in most cases)

If you get stopped and it's under your seat or in the console, etc....... you don't have to declare anything. They'll need solid probable cause for some other violation to search your vehicle. Having a gun in the car isn't probable cause.
