PS pump + external reservoir, need ideas.

I'm setting up full hydro right now on my Junk. (yes it needs it) I've got everything worked out & will start making up the lines tomorrow night but I need ideas on the feed line from the external reservoir to the pump reservoir. The inlet line for the stock reservoir is small (3/8" ID I believe) and I'd like to use a 1/2" ID hose minimum.

Questions are:

#1 Can the reservoir be removed from the pump and a feed line (suction line) easily adapted?

OR

#2 Can the reservoir cap be removed and sealed with a rubber expansion plug? (I need the reservoir sealed because my external reservoir mounts higher as it should, the stock is just extra capacity)

OR

#3 Is there an easier/better way to seal the reservoir?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

hey!

I was in this same situation not too long ago....

I'll try searching to see if i can come up with threads....

if you have the unthreaded ps pump, which is what you get when you have that plastic ressie, then it'll be more worth your while to just get a xj 4cyl ps pump that has a big hose barb on it, which makes it extremely easy to adapt....

Cool, thanks Beez!

My 3link looks a little like yours now, I'll post some pics when I'm done this weekend. I've got the full hydro installed just gotta plumb the sucker.

Thanks for the tip!

Some of the early 4-banger XJs were set up with remote reservoirs. Not sure if it's the '84 or the '86 but I'm pretty sure one of the 4-bangers I have here now is set up that way. However, it's night and pouring rain, so I'm sorry I don't feel like checking it out for you right this very instant.

thats exacrlt the one I'm talking about....

I have a pic somewhere....

On my 90 XJ 4.0, I have a PS pump and remote res from a 95 YJ 4.0. It almost bolts right up, you just have to use the pulley from your existing pump and change the way it bolts up. All the holes line up, but the YJ pump does not have tapped holes with short bolts, the bolts go all the way through. I'll take a pic tonight after work and post it up.

I just setup a remote reservoir combo about a year ago. I dont know if this will help, but I got a Nascar style one (off a crew used) off ebay. It comes with a nifty little bracket, has a -6AN return and a -10 or -12AN feed.
the feed is gravity fed on the bottom and the return is on the side.
Its Billet, has a nice tightly sealing cap and is small enough to squeak in some tight spots. I think the capacity is 1 pint.
I used to Earls pipe to -AN adaptors from summit to make it work on my mid 90's GM pump. The I used a frame cooler on the grill for cooling. It has -6AN fittings. cooler is 24" by 2" and fits real nice on the radiator. about $30.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

Both our 97TJ's with 2.5L I4's have remote reservoirs mounted on the fan shroud drivers side about 10" from the pump..

Is it hot in here or is it just me?
I need to get a frikkin front axle in before I polish anything :D

Sorry, kinda dark. I know I have one around here somewhere I took before I installed the battery on the drivers side. I used the the stock pressure line, a 3/4 bulk supply hose, and some 3/8 return line. The reservoir bracket is custom.
