Projext "V8 XJ" Build

Side note: The 4wd 4L60E uses a 'wet' junction in between the t-case and tranny (there is no output shaft seal, fluid just runs out and then back into the pan via a little hole under the output shaft). I learned out the hard way that with the advanced adapters kit that fluid from the trans will leak out the extra clocking holes on the adapter. I ended up temporarily sealing them up with ear plugs and RTV. I am going to weld the extra holes next time the adapter is out but i figured i would give you a heads up since you are the only person i know besides myself who used the AA kit for their swap. The NP231 is too thin at the adapter and the unused clocking holes will bridge the fluid and make it leak, major pain in the a**. Poor design.

Yep thanks to others' advice I sealed up the adapter with high temp RTV. Thanks for looking out

Nice.

Looking super clean BTW!
Thanks!

Cant wait to see it run,

Me too! I had to delay sending the harness in. Should go in a couple weeks. I just know that's not something that can wait.

Got the intake kit in, I'll need to order a 4" 90° for the trottle body. The hood does contact the intake, but juuuust barely and I think the silicon fitting would work.

Budget update:

This is just on parts, not including random supplies from the parts store.

Why was your SYE so expensive? That sucks you had to fork out so much for a motor/trans

Not 100%, but I believe that price includes the trans adapter apparatus to run the gm trans with heep tcase

Yea, that was a big chunk, but it is what it is.

WOW that's crazy
I'm over what most people will spend, but I wanted to give a realistic expectation.

Yep, that was for both the TC adapter and SYE

Got the coolant hoses in. I'll need to re-order the aluminum adapter for the upper house as its a little too short. I'll need a 6" one. Everything came from Pegasus Racing.

Lower hose has a jointer in the middle

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I'm at a spot where there's not much I can do until I get the harness sent out. With saving for the new house it's been a little crazy. My wife will be out of town this next weekend so I hope to get in the garage and do some small stuff.

I got the 90° silicon intake elbow. It should work.

However the clearance between the intake arm and the belt is a little worrisome. Not sure what I'm going to do, but it's like 1/16". I wish I had an aluminum intake tube and I'd just flatten it out a little.

Yeah that looks tight. If its plastic maybe you can warm it up with a heat gun and push it in some.

Looks like I can modify the plastic a little. I'll have to do some more massaging, but I think it'll work. I can't decide if the filter will stay where it's at or it'll move closer to the brake booster. It'll be decided once I mount the ECU.

Upper and lower rad hoses are done

The 90 degree elbow from Novak allows the intake to stick out a bit further, that's what i used with a Spectre intake.

I think your budget is about right for a DD reliable rig with a bunch of new stuff that wont wear out for a long time. I say budget for what you use it for. I did my swap so I could tow reliable long distance and cruise on the freeway in overdrive while still keeping the trail and rough road ability.
