Hey guys...debating on project ideas.

My cherokee was fun, but was tired of diagnosing and repairing issues every time I turned around....and was rather upset when the hubby killed him.

Way in the future plans with the hubby is to build a buggy.

right now looking for something that I can go play out at LBL on a weekend or drive into work one day if its nice.

Currently back and forth over a YJ project...prefably 92 or newer to get an HO engine and avoid carbed. Just wanna do a spring over, toss some 32's or 33's, a locker in the rear, and a cage/bikini top. TJ's still cost too much, unless i can find a wrecked one with a salvage title...even then.....MEH.

Thoughts, opinions?

Remember you XJ was an '89. I'd go for a 1997-1999 XJ as they seem to be in much better condition plus everything is not as old as the '89.

yea i know....diggin the open air top idea tho....unless i find an older XJ and whack it.....and then i dont have the fab skills to make it look good....

courtney loves her yj, its an 89 with an ax15... def spring for an HO jeep though... weve already budgeted for a howell kit for hers to replace the carb. right now its factory on 31's and we have a blast with it, plus its tight enough to be a dd

yea...its trying to find one for an OK price.....everyone seems to be wanting more than 4k for a YJ still.

we got hers for 4k even but it is super clean... and when i say clean i mean it drives like it was new, still has the factory owners manual etc..

yea. i'm ok with paying a bit for a nice one...but i'm trying to hold out for an I6....and most of the ones i'm seeing still have the 4 banger.

that or i'll start hunting the JY's for something and piece it together on a salvage title.

Buy my XJ. All it needs is a front pinion bearing and an O2 sensor (just found the O2 sensor was snapped off this weekend) and you're ready to go. Engine has about 13,000 miles on it. Tires are new 32x10.50x15 Kuhmo's, leather interior, AC, loaded. It's very reliable, lots of power. Even comes with a spare auto trans.

wish i could but this is project ideas for when I get back from the sandbox. that and no clue how much you'd be wanting.

How about a YJ (or a CJ) with a stroker and a mild lift? Easy axle swap and you're in there, and it's going to be a blast to drive.

the idea has merit. depends on what kinda axle swap.

on a different tangent, i've considered a 3rd gen 4 runner providing its got the v6 in it....but they are IFS....meh.

YJ's IMHO are overpriced for the age. I would think that you could find a decent 97-99 tj for what people want out of their yj.

i was looking....97-99TJ's theres people who still want in excess of 12k for. and they arent anything special.

so the ideas keep accumulating. I'm on the hunt, but not really actively looking till we get back from the sandbox.

I'd start lookin for buggie parts. Its never to early to start looking even if the project is a ways out. Deals are hard to find sometimes.

we kind of want to pay a shop to build the frame and do a lot of the stuff for us i.e. suspension and stuff like that. the idea is to maybe do a naturally aspirated diesel for an engine.....but dunno still...

I vote MJ with a I6 HO. Mildly build it and you've got a toy and a truck worthy of anything you want to do with it.

only way i'd do an MJ was if it came with the shorted. the LB's just look way funky to me.

that or i'd chop it and truggy it. (again, no fab skills comes into play here)

yea....all future ideas tho.

we will probably end up getting another quad first.
