Project Geosynchronous Orbit

Went up to Bill's (RCman) today and got a truss/ram mount mostly built with the help of Chris (vetteboy79). Travis (5spd_xj) came by for moral support :D.

I have to finish welding some pieces, and I'm going to add some 1.5 x .250" DOM to support the sides of the plate the ram sits on as well as tie the coil buckets in. The panhard mount will sit on the tube in front of the ram.

Wow, those are some really glamorous shots. Progress was alright, it would be been a little better with the temps above the low single digits.

Ross, it may look huge in those photos, but it isn't. There is only ~8" between the axle tube surface and the outer tube surface. If you look at the last photo you can see it really can't get any closer without interfering with the center section.

Bill get a damn kero or propane heater, Colin axle looks bitchin

This picture just screamed shovel to me I guess. :dunno:

I dont know how it would fit with H2's, but what if the ram was setup for on top of the high steer arm? That might allow the truss to be brought in/higher/more outta the way maybe, but also how much farther in could you safely push the ram inward and still have acceptable angles?

Bundled up it wasn't too bad.

Deceptive. That plate is just shy of 8" (axle to tube) x 9 (side to side)" IIRC. Obviously gussets are coming.

Oil plan clearance issues.
No sky high lifts here.

Kinda along the same thinking as this, Colin do you have any pictures on the axle straight-on from the front with the ram/tierods on?

I doubt it, but in any case the tie rods sit perfectly flat compared to the ram and the steering arms.

Nope I don't.

Believe me Ross, I can't put the ram on top and it can't get any closer to the axle. We played with it for a while.

And it doesn't sit out that far at all. Those pics as Bill said are deceptive.

it's obvious that you pretty much gave up on working shortly after I left... moral support is pretty darn important...youre welcome :)

came out pretty cool, dudeeee!!

Well at least we got something right. :D

Thanks for making me feel like a hack, guys. Pleasure helping y'all, and thanks for the pizza. :dunce:

Colin, I forgot to give you the money for those hubs, shoot me your email and I'll get a paypal headed your way.

Got one wheel well completely done as well as finished up the bed bob.

Pretty sturdy

Getting better at sheetmetal welding. 14ga to the bed floor.

Also planned out the rear bumper. 2 x 5 butted up against the frame.

Sticks out 1.75" from the tailgate. Hoping to protect it some.

IMAG0436.jpg

Almost flush with the bottom of the frame.

Looking good!
So what was the final number (inches) you gained from stock?

BTW... you need clearer pictures bad.

Make sure that tailgate clears the bumper when it opens. That's my only nitpick, looks great! And I bet if you put like 1 layer of bondo on and sanded it proper it'd look nearly perfect. Know you don't want to, just sayin' :spin1:
