Project Florida Crawler 2

That's a pretty sweet looking course

i agree. it keeps getting better and better every year. and luckily its hard enough to keep the traffic down so there really isn't ever a wait unless someone is stuck or broken.

went to a dinner with a Florida adventure wheeling group that was a few hours away, so of course i took my jeep and added a small 2 hour detour and did a little wheeling. was nothing too hardcore since it was just me and the wife and i didn't have a winch

also got to install the new winch yesterday along with some other needed work. new harmonic balancer, new water pump pulley, and some delta H4 conversion headlights. good news is the 10k winch fits in the bumper i built around the 8K version. just need to finish morning the relay box under the hood and i should be good to go winch wise again. will also likely be building a small switch panel for the winch for inside the cab. just to have incase i don't feel like messing with the winch controller or if the controller gets damaged.

Thanks, I actually convinced my wife to get out and take a few pictures since we were alone. I think she did pretty good

got the ruffstuff pinion guard installed and painted it....because i like dumb shit like that for some reason.

also came across a deal. now i was completely happy with the spool up front. reliable, cheap, and not much to it. but I've always wanted selectables front and rear for help with turning and so i don't have to get right out and unlock the hubs when if i pull out onto the street. especially if I'm just going from one trail to the other. also, with this trip coming up I'm hearing that a spooled front may not be the best option under certain circumstances in the snow and ice. so that is a plus. so the deal came up and i jumped on it. its an RD167 . which i hopefully will get installed tomorrow. i also have an old Rancho shock air compressor that i will plumb into a small air tank which I'm hoping will be plenty to power the locker.

got the ARB installed today. along with replacing one of the front hubs seals and the rear spindle seals. Ive been having a constant leak from the rear axle since day one. the cause is a rough and grooved surface on the spindle. so even with new seals it still leaked. so i went with the late model 14b seals that are pretty much unitized and spin inside themselves instead of on the spindle surface.

Spool out.

ARB in.

and a really bad picture of one of the new rear seals

Nice build! I tried to read through it all and had a few questions on your compression and down travel. I think you said 14" Ori in the front and 16" in the rear? Ori recommends running those in the center of travel, what is your opinion on that and are you doing so? Reason I ask is because I'd like to keep my ride low but at the same time if I can only get 3" of up travel clearance to the oil pan then I certainly don't want to run a 6" Ori and have only 3" of down travel. Thoughts?

up front i have about 4-5" of up travel on the 14's and 6-7 on the 16's. the halfway suggestion is to keep you in the nitrogen gas level of the shock and out of the oil. i have removed oil from all 4 shocks to help soften the ride at the lower travel height. bouncing around off road feels fine how it is setup now.

ORI does not offer an integrated reservoir now that will make it easier to run a lower up travel without the side effects of the rougher ride. you may want to look into that if you are considering ORI's. i know i plan to add them in the next year all around.

got the beadlocks in and on.

did my best to get them as centered and straight as possible and they seem to be pretty smooth at highway speeds. so I'm pretty happy.

ended up just clear coating the outer ring. i like the way it turned out. i definitely feel a lot more confident about not ripping my valve stem out anymore, as it was super exposed before.
