Project Downward Spiral

Reading the build makes me glad I just pay to have all my stuff done.

I think it's about time this should be finished.

Haha! Agreed!
It'll be nice to finally use those seats I bought from you for something other than pretty floor decorations. :D

I'll have to order another set for my living room then. :dunce:

nah, by the time those things are ready to go in the Jeep your liver will be junk.

:D

I just went out to the garage to get my seats and they had been sitting so long that mice had chewed most of the foam out from the backside. Thankfully they were only used covers so I'll order new ones. I feel your pain Bill about seeing parts just laying around, mines been a 2yr project.

I'd go nuts. I could not wait 2 or 3 years to fish something like this. Hell Mine is not finished now, but I wheel it anyway! LOL! It's also not perty like Bills. :gee:

All that work will pay off the first time you take it out.Nice job man.The thred is long but you were very detailed.Do you have any pics to this point.
Thanks. What are you looking for pictures of? Most of the recent ones are up.

Ouch. I had a couple mice but all they did was store birdseed in the muffler I gave to Colin. The mice are long gone now thankfully.

It is taking much much longer than I'd thought, but I enjoy the build. Something about spending time in the garage just works.
While I can't wheel my own I've been out a few times this year. Once this is "done" I'm not sure what I'll do with my time.
Oh, mine's not perty by any stretch! It just looks ok in the pictures.

As for new tech in the last couple days; not much. I had to replace a few things in my father's dash so he could have heat again and that took a whole night after work. Last night I swapped the heated mirrors over to my other XJ, bypassed that stupid power window lockout switch, and chased some electric issue with the TPS again.
I did manage to stop to pick up the hardware for my rockers, but they didn't have the flat socket head cap screws in the size I needed. I grabbed a couple regular cap screws, they'll get me by until the correct ones come in. Hopefully tonight I can get the massive amount of holes drilled/tapped.

I gave up on mine for awhile, kinda pushed it aside. Actually worked on time 4 months maybe.

I picked up the seat and it rained bb's of foam but it did give me the excuse to get the color matched covers. You'll have plenty to do when its done theres always something. My DD 00' has the same issues minus the TPS. No heat because of that switch under hood & the lockout constantly comes on. Your XJ is perty in the sense of mechanical style.

Bill, for my sanity, I think you have to take it up a notch (pun intended)

How much of a notch shall I go up and does this help?

I guess I can break the news in this thread now... I wanted American made front axle shafts. After comparing the price of Superiors with CTMs to a set of these (on sale) there really wasn't much of a difference in cost. So now I've got some super bling RCV axles on the way. They hopefully should arrive soon. :)

Unfortunately this means I'll have to save up much longer for my steering as I blew much more on shafts than I planned on.

Bill I'm gonna get a giant vinal sticker made and when you aren't looking me and Carmelo are gonna put it on the glass in your hatch. Don't hold it against us.

EDIT: post fixed, awesome!

I hate it when I spend more money than I intended to... I never intended to do anything that would require upgrading axles or the track bar or my rims, oops!

Haha! I have no idea what that is supposed to be or where you found that. But if you get it made in full color, I'll let you stick it in the back corner of the window. Some of ya'll have way to much time on your hands. :laugh3:

On a note that isn't going to sidetrack this thread; I got the holes drilled and tapped for the passenger rocker last night and fiddled around with the drill press some more. Unfortunately the bearings I need for the drill press are a specialty setup and haven't been made in over 30 years.
After calling around a few places and playing the guy who knows a guy told a guy deal, found a small shop in NJ that has a few NOS ones. Great! But the problem? $72.25ea, and I need a pair plus another for the pulley he's looking up the price on. Better than springing for a new one I guess.
