never in my life would i thought of wrapping paper. the next time i spray bomb a jeep thats what i'm going to use.
It's a whole heck of a lot cheaper than that "special painters paper" and it did the trick.

odd, that colour scheme makes me think he's a closet Canadian.
Check it out... red hood, white roof, red bed, Maple Leaf on the roof... guaranteed that rig would go anywhere, in any weather, help anyone anywhere... but it would rust out in a few years sadly.

In case you’ve missed my plan for the rear bump stops, here it is again. I want air bumps. I can’t afford air bumps. So I figured if I made mounts and mocked up everything like I had them, at a later date all I have to do is undo 2 bolts on each side and slide the new ones in.
So here’s what I started with. Two bump cans, a pair of Energy Suspension bumps, 2 external c-clips (not pictured), and an old school Fox shock body that no longer had a use.
So where did you get the bump stop mounting cans? I was planning on doing pretty much the same exact thing for the same exact reason. I'm looking for the best place to purchase mounting cans. Are your cans for a 2" OD bump? What brand bump would you WANT to purchase if you had the dough? I looked at the Ballistic Fab mounting cans and they are 2.125" for their bumps. Jeff

I would like to see the rest of this contraption. How does all this go together? I'm a hack and don't have a bank roll either! Plus air bumps will add bling to my rig!
I got the mounting cans and the old shock body from Offroad Engineering. It was the first time I've dealt with Mike over there and he was easy to deal with. I don't recall what I paid for the cans themselves, I remember almost everyone being the same price when I called around. I went with Mike at Offroad Engineering because he threw in that old shock body for me to cut up. I probably could have just made some cans out of 2.25"OD x .120 wall DOM tubing and got some 2" OD DOM to make the bumps themselves, but by the time I paid cut fees for the small lengths I needed I was almost 2/3rds the cost of just going the route I did. Made sense to spend the little bit more and have the cans already set (plus I then get chromoly cans although not like I really need them). All in all I probably have about $80 into the whole deal with the poly stops.
I went with the 2" cans so that I could use all the popular brands (like SAW, Fox, King, Bilstein, etc) if I ever came across a deal on them. I called SAW and got dimensions for their 2" stroke bump, so I based mine of those collapsed. I think the Ballistic ones are nice, but you are then limited to only their bumps due to the odd size.
Went together easy. I cut the old shock body to length, cap'd the ends (one with a welded nut), and threaded in the poly bumps. Probably took me all of 40min including time to shake the can of primer.
I thought I had pictures up, I'll dig for some.

Gosh, now that you point it out it almost has been that long. I'm only 3 months shy of the 3 year mark.

It is starting to come together much faster now. The main part of the cage is back on. I'm hoping to get the A-pillars and the front roof bars done this weekend.
I also have to finish re-cutting/clearing our snowshoeing/skiing trails in our backyard due to last years ice-storm. I was making some headway in the last week in evenings on that before daylight savings time kicked in and now it is dark before I get home. :banghead:The good news is that is all that is left of the cleanup.

Well it may be 3 years but you have given us some great tech and what looks to be a really nice rig. THose of us that butcher them together thank you for your hard work and dedication. :thumbup:
