Project Downward Spiral

That looks bad ass, I like them mounted at that angle...
Thanks! Yeah, I do too. The angle and the offset from each other does looks pretty good. It had better as it was the only way they fit. :D
Are they bright enough to see the turn signals during the day?

I don't remember what I have now, but my old Farmboy light boxes had small turn signals that were hard to see during the day.
I'll snap a picture in the sunlight, but I am thinking so. They have 7 bright "High Output" LEDs each. Definitely brighter then the little ones I've seen used in those boxes, hard to tell from the picture but they are brighter than the stock middle 3rd brake light.

Been running it a bit and now that things have settled in it was time to fix the front.

My combination of very soft RE 4.5" coils and Fox 2.0s up front with valved 30/90 was horrid. Great on the rocks and slow stuff but anything much faster than ~7mph and it felt like I was always on the bumps. This is turn started causing my driver's inner fender to fold in on itself and take the coil tower and bend it up and out. I tore everything down and fixed that with some hits with a hammer, a couple pieces of plating and a few welds (as well as plated the pass side so it couldn't start the same). Hopefully that stops that.

I ordered up some shims and re-valved them tonight. I was pleasantly surprised how easy this was. Really, it was super simple. I've swapped the stacks out for 55/85 (after talking with a few people). Hopefully this does the trick otherwise I'll be looking for some firmer coil springs. I'll report back after my next run in a couple weeks with hopefully good things. I do have shims for any combo for compression 30 thru 70 and 70 thru 90 in the rebound so I can play a bit if I do need to make a change.

No, THIS caused that :D

Word to the wise: Don't follow the guy who's XJ is on it's last voyage
no it didn't... the landing a few fractions of a second later did :laugh3:

Yeah. Good advise. You'll either break something or get covered in metal shavings and ATF.

Just switched to my September 2011 page in my Naxja Calendar(s). Still lovin' the fabrication and all the hard work that went into this rig. Nice air shot too Bill! :lickout:

Thanks Scott!

RCman, how are those 7" BS H1 wheels working out for you? The price of a set of standard H1s is pretty tempting and I was just curious if you had any regrets or if you've had any problems with the front spindles in the rocks. You have definitely built one nice looking XJ.

I run recentered H1's and love them. Ther rear is about perfect width with my stock location leaf springs. The front however is too wide for my liking. I am looking at changing the BS on my fronts. Even recented my hubs stick out some and I have had little contact with the rocks.

more airtime at rocktoberfest with a real camera? ok? ok.
Unfortunatly I won't be there, I have a good friend's wedding that weekend.

Working out great. Other than being a tad on the heavy side I can't complain about them. I run drive flanges up front and have no issues, if I had lockouts it may be another story though.

Exactly why I didn't recenter them. :)

Ha!
Not much has changed other than the fuel level and a few more dents.
Hopefully get to use it a bit more this year.
