I did a bunch of work on my XJ a few weeks ago and just figured I'd post some pictures. I didn't take enough pictures during the work to do a write up so it's more of a "look what I did" type of thread...so I figured it belonged here.
Here's how the jeep looked up until recently
On the passenger side front door, one of the moldings started peeling back and was rusting pretty bad so I started by ripping all the moldings off and got to work on the rust.
I grinded it down to bare metal with a wire wheel and then sprayed over it with rust converter. Then I spread some body filler on.
After taping up, primering, sanding, and taping up again, I was ready to paint. Like I said I didn't take too many pictures during the work so I don't have a step by step. Here it is taped up and after 2 coats of paint. I used duplicolor paint shop mineral gray- the ready to spray stuff, comes already reduced and mixed. I didn't feel like going out and buying hardener, reducer, and paint so I figured I'd give it a try. I was really impressed with how it turned out.
I also put on a pair of 97+ power mirrors I found in the junk yard. I searched on here and found a wiring diagram for wiring them into an old style switch. The picture doesnt work anymore but MisterFubar posted it.
I put the switch in my crappy cupholder; there was actually what looked like a cutout already there so cutting it out and installing the switch was easy.
Next, I got to work on the bumper. First I pulled off the old bumper. I picked up a JCR winch bumper from the black friday sale and got the pre runner add on.
Here's the bumper installed and lights bolted on
Here's a better front picture, minus the d-rings. I took them off and just keep them in the jeep since they'd be really easy to steal.
And a side picture. I didn't get any pictures of the installation of the rails but you can see them installed in this picture. A friend of a friend made them, they're all 1/4" tube.
Big thanks to Brad (Hammered on here) for helping me out with my junk. He came over and helped install the bumper and sliders.
