PLEASE HELP - Stolen Jeep

I'm sure they CAN .... question is will they.

This makes me wonder .... if a company produced a relatively inexpensive GPS tracking device that could be hidden in a car .... would people buy and use them?
You mean like LoJak?

ezpass has cameras right?
Can the police pull a photo of the person driving?

I called the police informing them of the information. While I was talking I was interrupted and was told "Thank you for letting us know. I will update the officers on patrol to keep a lookout since your vehicle is back in the area.."

I wasn't even given the chance to tell them what lanes or asked for any other information I got. Yes, my rig entered 14C which is in my area about 2.3 miles away but where they exited, 14, is by another city in another county across the river...

It just seems that no F was given. I think their way of locating it is when they just happen to stumble on it.

Anywho, ya, next vehicle of mine, be it another XJ or maybe just go for a WJ, it will get a LoJack and a custom tracker.

I don't know much about LoJack .... but isn't that built in to the car?

I was thinking about just a small little device that can be put anywhere (car, luggage, laptop case, etc) that is trackable on a smartphone.

I've had a few LoJacks installed in a few new vehicles belonging to my parents and wife. The device is about the size of like an HID converter that is placed somewhere under the vehicle's interior panels. From what I've noticed getting it installed by different dealers, it's always been in the same area/location. I wish they can just wire it up and have the owner place the transponder no one else will know.

I know they sell GPS transponders out there that you can install, download an app and all you will need is a SIM card to track down the vehicle...BUT that isn't safe. Not safe as in having to go after it yourself. With LoJack, at least its the authorities that will be going after it after it is enabled nationwide.

On Saturday I got a call from my local police department saying that my vehicle was recovered by the Auto Squad of another city's police department (Newark). It was recovered on 12/14/13 but since it's the weekend, I couldn't do anything until today (Monday) since the Auto Squad and the impound were closed on weekends.

After going to the Newark police to get it released I head to the impound. Trudging though a mud filled lot that looks like a "you pull it junk yard", off in the distance I saw the top quarter of my truck, sitting over the other vehicles . As I ran for it, I thought to myself that this is a great happy ending for my horrible day. When I finally got around to the other mashed up, stripped car chassis before my truck...this is what I saw..

damn dude...that sucks. how banged is the front end? did it push the motor back?

i have a spare motor, front clip, bumper and most of what you might need if its not too bad...i also have a radiator. the front end parts are white, but they would get you by in a pinch..

know what you will do yet?

Damnit that sucks almost more than never finding it!! I'm sure to add insult to injury they'll charge you a bunch to claim it. Sorry to see this man.
I almost forgot, **** theives!!! May they rot in hell!!

I couldn't even get the hood to pop up to check inside and I didn't even think about checking underneath it since I just got discharged from the hospital about 2 hours from seeing that and getting diagnosed with gallbladder disease (I didn't even know there was such a thing).

All I know is that my new FF Dynamics with Dirtbound e-fan setup is in the form of a V(5 months old), trans cooler gone. Everything in the front of that engine is brand new installed just within 3 months. With the airbags deployed the dash is in pieces. I hope whoever did this got hurt by the airbags. Aftermarket stereo butchered off, other things butchered off. Steering column hacked with the key cylinder in the ashtray. Crap I forgot to take pix of that too.:smsoap:

What am I thinking of doing? I called insurance already. If they decide to wreck it, I hope I can get at least the JCR deluxe slider and the seat I just installed. If I do get some money back, I'll probably put that into a WJ. I can't bare to have another XJ :'(

It might sound corny but at least now I have closure.

I got that truck almost half dead and I brought it back to life with my own hands and with the help of my loving wife. She funded a bunch of the upgrades for it..from the JCR sliders to the components on the engine and I put in a lot of blood sweat and tears from busting my knuckles on those rusty nuts. The XJ is what got us going to work after Sandy hit..even tho water was up to the seats on that, it's the only one in our block that ran right after and it hauled fuel cans from PA to here to help out our neighbors afterwards.

But ya...now it's just to sit back and wait what the insurance will do :(

Ed, sorry to see the condition of the Jeep. If the insurance company decides to total it, will you buy it back?

I've already shared this with Ed, but I had my car stolen when I was in college. The difference between my situation and Ed's situation, is that my car was professionally stolen and taken to a chop shop in which it was stripped completely and dumped in a field within 48 hours. I know how he feels. I felt violated, humiliated, and at a complete loss. Everything I had worked hard for was gone. In this case, Ed has something. It will be interesting to see what he will do with this situation. I think I would want the Jeep back if it was fixable.

I don't understand people who choose to do harm to others. Punishment for crimes in this country are weak. We punish those who smoke weed (do not infringe on the rights of others) but there's very little punishment for those who engage in theft (infringe on the rights of others). Our society and the laws are all very jacked up.

EDIT: Sorry, you posted as I was typing.

If insurance totals it (most likely) see how much the buyback is. Mine was $500. I got 3500 in the claim so I made $3000 in the deal and fixed what was broken. At least for you, you can salvage some parts for les than what they cost new and part out the rest if that's what it comes to

You guys got me thinking....I never thought about buying it back. I can get it back and strip it, save some stuff that I can use on my next vehicle...a WJ! lol

Sorry to see it end like that.

Insurance will definitely total that.
Not sure you want to buy it back to get back on the the street. There are lots of things to contend with legally once the airbags deploy and it will get costly.

No..I won't rebuild it...but use it as a donor for others to rebuild their workable rigs. I can probably use some engine stuff there for a next rig.

I'd love to see you get another XJ, but I would totally understand if you got a WJ. :D

I think of it as a "sign" like everything else that happens to me. My wife and I are working on having a family...maybe it's a sign to get something more roomy and comfy if a little one or two comes out ;)

I like the way you think. A positive attitude goes a long way. ;)

I am just wondering how they got your jeep to start and run? My 01 has the chipped key . You can swap the key cylinder out but it will only run so long if the PCM does not see it.

Sucks dude to see your baby like that. Like i said my car was stolen and i didnt get anything back. Probably better that way. I wouldnt have wanted the tainted vehicle. But you got yours and it was a slap in the face. Man i wish we could both get the bastards.
