Plans for the DD

Welp, I just typed some big long post and lost it when I tried to submit so chances are that this one won't be as detailed... ugh.

I've had my other XJ for about 7 years now. Love it to death and beat it to hell frequently.

Now that I've got the identical model in a different color for my DD I'd like to make this one look relatively nice. Not looking for show quality, by any means.

I finally got around to painting the hood over top of majorly peeling clearcoat to match the hood of my trail junk. I got impatient and pulled the tape off early and it got a little jagged in the center part... Overall, it looks better than it did... Much!

I still need to address the fairly large smooth dent in the door and fender. There aren't any creases in these dents so I think they'll come out and be kinda sorta straight. I'm not interested in doing any body work or real painting. Do those huge suction cups pull dents half way decent? What's the best way to pop dents like this?

Replace the Cherokee emblem, install 2" lift, add 31s on my old soft 8's, detours winch mount and winch and trim a few things. Ta Da!

About the time I made that last post my buddy pulled up in the yard with these tires on his truck. We dismounted them and mounted the factory tires. $200 bucks to him and he gets those ugly ass wheels back seems like a pretty good deal to me. They almost brand new and I think they'll ride great. Since I don't plan on doing any crawling or major offroading with this rig I think they're perfect. They'll ride good and be quite...

Now I just need to get them mounted on my wheels and stick the lift on it...

So, stock wheels or black soft 8s? They're 31x10.50s...

Ya think the stock wheels will make them rub at full lock? I'm not afraid to trim, of course.

With AT's I'd go with a stock wheel! They look funny on soft 8's IMO.

Get a set of stock Canyons, they look awsome IMO.

The Jeep looks good. I like the hood. Is that just a flat black rattle can?

Those wheels the tires came on are some kind of serious fugly!!!!

I painted the hood with duplicolor sparay on bedliner in a can.

So if I mount them on the stock wheels will I have to worry about rubbing on the fenderwell? Im not worried about the flairs.

I figure since I bought the jeep for 500 bucks I can afford to do some to it. Lol

I wonder how easily I could get the coil spring out without taking everything loose. I'll take the sway bar loose to replace with the discos that I have and the shocks loose. Shouldn't I be able to get the coil out without dropping the axle any farther?

I figure after I take both of those items loose and let the suspension hang by the frame I should be able to get those springs out.

For the lift I'm just adding a 2" spacer and a shackle in the back. I'm going to leave both sway bars and run the same shocks... or at least that's the plan. I'll probably end up with an adjustable track bar fairly soon.

My goal for this thing is to be fairly capable but look good and have as close to stock road manners as possible. I want this to be more of a roaming rig than anything.

It's been a LOOONG time since I've fooled with a stock suspension...

All I ever had to do was disconnect the shocks, sway bar, put the body on jack stands and jack up one side of the axle at a time the spring will fall right out. Getting it back in with the spacer will be a little harder but doable with some man power. I wouldnt disconnect any of the steering components as its not really necessary.

^^ What James said. It shouldn't be too bad getting them out. The passenger side might be tougher than the drivers side but still doable. Putting the coil back in should be the same with or without the spacer though.

Flexd, as much as I like the looks of the factory wheels I wanted a little wider stance and I don't want to run spacers... soooooo.

I know... it's terrible. These will have to do for a while. One day when life slows down a little I might pick up some snazzier wheels.

I plan to put the stock center caps back on the soft 8's so they'll look like the front wheels on Big Red (RIP)

It doesn't look too shabby actually. A lot of times the AT's end up looking like baloons on soft 8's.....Shoulda got silver ones though....just sayin' :D

I can't wait to see them on the jeep either. I just have to find a way to have the jeep have a day of down time. There's several things I want to address while its sitting there.

Needless to say, I figured out the down time issue. We got our Liberty back out of the shop and I've been driving it until I get this POS back on the road.

Put the girls on it...

We did that last week. I'll eventually get to the back and mounting the centercaps on...

I've got my Yakima crossbars for the roof and a Detours Backbone on the way. The winch is sitting in my shed waiting for all the other crap to get here.

I'm still trying to find a nice 2" hitch for this thing.

Wow, it looks really beat up in those pictures...

Oh well. Add new fenders and driver door to the list of things I'm looking for.

I also still have to install the Discos that I had laying around and do an alignment.

What brand are the yellow shocks? I've seen them in the junkyard a number of times and thought about pulling them but not sure if it's worth it.

To be honest, I have no clue. The PO put those on there not long before he sold it to me. I want to say they're Monroe but I'm not sure. They're just stock shocks as far as I know.
