Parking brake cables with rear disk brakes

So I used a 2004 liberty cable for the passenger side and tried a '95 GC cable for the driverside ... Used the one from the donor vehicle.
Now, while the overall length is perfect ... I have another issue ... where they engage the equalizer they are different length cable protrusions ... The older GC cable being roughly an inch and a half or more longer than the liberty cable.
Could this be the result of old vs new cables on either side (from cable stretch) or will I need to stick with liberty cables for both sides?
If I go buy a new GC cable should that solve the issue?
Thanks
Dave

I used stock xj e brake cables, just snip the end off, take the spring and cut about an inch off the spring then re install, make a loop and secure it with a small cable clamp and slip it over the lever. Takes like 5 minutes a side

yep, coulda done that but didn't want to go that route.
ended up finding a store with a 98 passenger side for an Explorer ... it works OK.

Going to take the liberty cable out to work and see what I can do to about shortening the sheath a little if possible as it's considerably longer and better suited to my needs.

thanks for the help.

in case that doesn't work out, you can buy XJ specific disc swap cables from jeep4x4center.com, rustys, and other places. correct length & setup.

What, like the ones I oprdered from Morris that were out of stock with no expected time of delivery (well there was one but even they said it was three weeks past due and not likley to arrive anytime soon). I'd prefer something a little closer and easier to find myself, but I did try the easy option first ... but said at least another month so ... here we are.

When converting to ZJ discs, I used the stock cables after cutting the ends of the parking brake levers on both the XJ and ZJ brakes and then welding the XJ levers onto the ZJ's.
To get the extra cable length needed for a 4' lift, the parking brake bracket was moved rearward.

I used my stock XJ cables. I took a galvanized chain link, bent it at 90*, looped one end around the stud of the stock cable, looped the other end on the e-brake arm, clamped it enough to close the gap, and tightened the e-brake cables appropriately.

It's been working terrifically for years now without issue...and was free and easy!

You must have a 97+. Those they appear to be out of stock. I'd bet it's because I've mentioned on a few sites those are available and they sold out.
There are plenty 84-96 available.
