reading through the FSEIS and I dont think Pardoe is closed, I remember kathy saying that one of the roads in might end up being closed, but there are other ways in...

Joshs website says 8n03 for the trial, but the forest service calls for the west end of 09n04?

im trying ti figure out how to get in.

in the impact study it is said not to cross a meadow(page 24)

If you read the impact study they say pardoe 4wd trail is not affected at all, so are you sure, it said pardoe had no issues.
unless it turns into another trail after a certain point or something.

they call it pardoe 4WD trail in the report. It says it open

8NO3 is not in here:

The LRMP would not be amended for the routes as proposed in Alternative 1: 09N01, 09N08, 16E26 (09N82) 19E01 (09N83), 09N95, 0.5 miles of 10N13 (Schneider Camp Road), 17E73 (6.8 miles of 10N13, Strawberry Cr. 4WD trail), 10N14, 16E27 (10N21; Long Canyon 4WD trail), 10N98, 16E33 (11N23F), 16E21 (11N26F (; Barrett 4WD trail), 11NY32, 14N39, 17E16, 17E19, and 17E28. Instead, these routes would continue to be part of the NFTS but would remain closed to public motor vehicle use until the routes are in compliance with S&G 100 as it pertains to meadows.

wait is this it?

The LRMP would also not be amended for routes 17E24 and 10N01B (10N01). The portion of 17E24, Carson Emigrant Trail, from the new Mud Lake Trailhead south to the intersection with 17E28 would be designated for public motor vehicle use. The remaining portions of 17E24 would continue to be part of the National Forest Transportation System (NFTS) but would remain closed to public motor vehicle use until the routes are in compliance with S&G 100 as it pertains to meadows.

but page 14 in the above link shows Pardoe 4wd trail as open

I dont see 8N03 anywhere on the study

I'll need to look when I get home. Mud lake is an access road around the middle of the trail. It is the typical route back out to the hwy so you don't need to drive the whole trail the other direction

So what was the final answer to this? I'm not going to rehash everything said already here, except to say I have read everything I can get my hands on and yes, I agree it appears to be open (as in not on the list).

I called the forest service, and they told me that it was open for the first 2 miles. and thats it . basically its closed for all intents and purposes from what they told us, but you can do a few miles. I really wanted to run this little trail one of these days...

Well as long as the gate isn't locked I really only wanted a mild (my 76 year old Mom is wanting to go camping with her grandkids, aka my kids) trip into Mud Lake. There is this beautiful site on the west side of the lake that is simply a great spot to camp and do some fishing/swimming.

Last year the gate at both ends was locked up tight.

I believe the road to mud lake was one that has been affected. Please call the fs before going up. That section may very well be locked. I would hate for you to go all the way up there just to find that out

Well heck, there is only two ways in there. The gate above Silver Lake that leads to Mud Lake then the gate at Bear River Reservoir that is the very long way in.

We'll have a back up plan just in case.

From what I understand the lower gate at bear is open and the upper gat is closed. Again I have not confirmed anything myself but talking second hand with others this seems to be right.

Again I would urge you to call, good luck.

post up how far you get

It will be a couple of weeks but I sure will. We'll check both gates!

BTW - Has anyone figured out how to read the PDF map -

What does "Designate for Public Motorized Use with Mitigation" exactly mean? It is the color purple on the map above. Also what does the brown square mean? Does it mean you can't go thru a brown square?

The most important aspect here is the confusion and complete lack of clear meaning this document has or hasn't. When they mean "No Public Motorized Use" they say that and it's colored yellow. So by default isn't everything else (on this linked map) open? Especially the pink color that states, "Designate for Public Motorized use". What the heck else could that statement mean other than it's open? And why designate a part of the trail that's landlocked? Are we to helo our Jeeps in, lol?

The other thing I see a lot riding ATV's is a short section of a trail will be closed to OHV's. Apparently the only way to continue on is to have a chase truck following you, so you can trailer the quads to the next open section. It could be a lack of logic and common sense, but I think they do it on purpose, just the first stage of getting a trail completely closed.
