Panasonic CF-71 laptop

This is a long way from an XJ tech question, so I guess that it belongs here.

I have a Panasonic CF-71 laptop that works fine when running off the battery. But when plugged in to ac it will shut off without any warning.

It's getting really annoying. The battery lasts about an hour per charge. Anyone with any help as to what's going please chime in.

Thanks

Daryl

You may have a short in either the AC adapter or the internal power circuitry on the laptop. It's not unusual for them to shut off automatically if either of these conditions occur. Out of curiosity, it's not getting hot when plugged in, is it?

Not any hotter than normal. I don't think that it's from overheating. If it shuts off I can pull the power cord out and it'll start up and run just fine afterwards. Plus it can be off and at room temp, and I start it up with the power cord plugged in and even before it gets to normal operating temp. it shuts off. I recently reloaded windows 2000, and it seamed fine for a couple of weeks, but it never did this before the reload.

It may just be time for a pro to look at it. Thing is, it'll cost more for that than the computer cost me in the first place.

Thanks, any other thoughts? more info as to what to do/find if it's shorting out?

Is there a possibility that hibernate or sleep mode is enabled when it is on AC and not on battery. That would explain why it restarts when you unplug the AC. ????

Good call. It's also possible that ACPI is acting up on it.

Just delt with this on my Girlfriends IBM think pad.

You should go to the panasonic website and download and install the power management drivers and any packaged power management software if you haven't already.

This worked on her laptop... hopefully it will be the fix for you..
