Painting bare metal products.

What is the best way to go about painting bare metal products. I know that taking it somewhere and having it powder coated is probably the best thing to do but isn’t that really expensive? For example say you got TNT Long Arms, they come shipped bare metal. What do you guys use to paint yours? Is there a special type of spray paint that is hard and will not chip so easily? Let me get some input. Thanks.

If still coated with animal fat I first clean the metal with mild soap and water. I next apply Jasco Metal Etch to remove and minor surface rust and to prep the metal for paint adhesion. After this dry the metal and you are ready to use your favorite paint. Since I like powercoat too I use ACE No-Slip spray can paint cause it looks just like it. Since it's made for folks walking on it is also very durable.

I may also suggest brushed on implement paint. If brushed on correctly you won't get any brush marks, it's easy to touch up and real cheap. I've got an 8 dollar can that's done two rock rails and my rear bumper, still 3/4 full. it's also a laquer based paint, takes forever to dry, but real tough stuff.

Here's what brushed on will get you.

I don't have any more than that, I can take some of the rear bumper tonight, but it's still muddy from WF.
That is an 8 dollar can of semi gloss implement paint from TSC. Brush it on thick and the brush marks will even out. It's real tough paint, super easy to touch up, just slap some more on.
I did that and my bumper with an 8 dollar can of paint and a 3 dollar 4 inch brush. Wicked cheap. I've still got 3/4 of the can left.
