Yea, they sent me a letter, want me to register on a .com site, they want all my private information and the 'we know who you are', if you know who I am how come you want all my personal information and are using a .com site.

I'd have less trouble paying taxes if they had less trouble spending them.
What do we get back as RoI for taxes? I end up funding an awful lot of programmes I don't want to, I'm sure - but I don't have the option.
(Let's leave aside the programmes that shouldn't have gotten going or gotten funding from the off...)
And, as mentioned, the whole "settling for pennies on the dollar" bit - that's annoying as well.
Frankly, I am and remain an advocate of a flat tax to replace, in toto, the current structured "progressive" income tax system. When people can get more back from .gov than they paid into the system in the first place, there's a huge problem. Make it a flat rate of 7-10%, rescind the whole of 26CFR, then we can start to make progress (the IRS is one of the biggest damned bureaucracies we have - they produce nothing, generate pantloads of useless paperwork, and are a sea anchor on the economy. By going to a flat tax and eliminating the need to file and/or audit returns, we eliminate much of the paperwork involved, we can eliminate the end-of-year reporting, we can disband fully 90% of the Eternal Revenue Service, and start getting ahead for once since 1940...)
