OT patching swamp cooler pan

the pan on our swamp cooler is leaking a noticable amount of water out of 2 small holes. anyone know of something that will work well to seal it up? easyer and faster the better as I would really like to keep it running the hot parts of the day

Could you just put some JB weld, epoxy, or RTV over the holes?

yeah the water part is what i wasent sure of... but you could just unplug it for a while dry it then seal the holes.

Sounds like it is time for a new one.....UGH! Jeep budget breaker! Check around the local hardware store as I bet they sell stuff for the purpose. Or just do sheetmetal, pop rivets and seam sealer.

Mr. Sticky's underwater glue.

Should work on small holes in metal. I don't have a package in front of me, but seem to remember that it will work on just about anything that holds water.

There's a spray on sealer called (not sure how it's spelled.....been a while) Kooler Kote. It looks just like the spray undercoating you would use on your car, in fact, I would try a can of undercoating--------Hans

yeah that would be a option but both my wife and I got laid off last week so I have to be cheap. I think im gona hit the hardware store and ask. looking in the pan it looks like it had a plastic liner so maybe I can just replace it.

Attach a funnel and a plastic tube and run it to the trees to water them. JK...

All the suggestions that I was going to recommend were taken. I know there is a plastic based brush on sealer that works well, I have seen it near the cooler area but I have allso seen the plastic liner trays.

And both laid off in the same week, dude, that really sucks.

Both laid off within 5 minutes of eachother(we were working for the same company) damn totally forgot to go get those tires from you Dennis you around today?

No worries, yes I am here, I have to go to ricks house later about 5:00 and finish installing the seats in the race truck.

If its leaking through a hole, rather than a crack, put a sheetmetal scew in the hole.

autopart stores sell a gastank hole fix. Its a 2 piece epoxy that you just break off a amount and then kneed for a few min then push in the hole. Its made to handle gas for a very long time. I think water would be a non issue. About 5-7$ for it I would think. I know autozone has it for one.

just got some seal all and waterproof duct tape. per the guy at the hardware store, I need to let it drain seal the hole and tape over it so it doesnt fall out before it cures in 10 minutes. total cost $3.20 Ill post up if it workes or not

i can vouch for the gas tank repair compound, its held up thru big bear, 4 trips to azusa, and 1 cleghorn run, and no signs of leaks yet... it works pretty good.

Drain the water out of the cooler over night to dry, is this a standard cooler or a single air inlet? Some of the single inlet coolers have a plaste pan in them, if it does use RTV on the out side of the pan... That mines you will have toremove the pan to fix it.. If it is a standard cooler you can use mastic on it, but it has to be dry on the inside, use a small amount on inside, then on the bottom of the outside you can use more to patch it.. This way you won't have the smell of the mastic in your house, this will last for the season... I learned this from a kid that does coolers for a living, i got 2 yrs out of mineafter repair was done
