you know the 8.8 isn''t a bad idea either, you can find those at pull a part for $100 -200 with disc brakes 4.10s and a limited slip. plus the axles are a tad larger. then you sell the 44 for about 250-300 and you just might come out ahead on the rear.
but i would still go 4.56's
I'd like to do a 8.8 swap when i step up to 31's since i will NOT go higher than that because of my MD. That way i can have 4.10's W/ LS and disks!
unless of course i get another on i can lift 3 inches and throw 33's on after generous Trimming!![]()

I really think you'd like 4.10's and 30's Rob.......I loved it. I know I told you at WF but, I'll say it again. Don't get in a big hurry to go bigger tires and lift. Enjoy it while it's little.
That's the reason I made this thread. I have no intention of going past 31 for some time. I really like my 30's so I won't even consider new tires until these are bald. Then i really like the stance of 31's. Going to 33's and 4.5+ inches of lift cost a lot more money. Every one says to get the 4.56 gears with my set-up now.
I dunno. I wanted 4.1o... then i hear I'll regret it. So I look at 4.56, seems to big for my set-up.
4.88 is out of the question cause i won't go that big!
I've got some thinkin and research to do.
Once again thanks for all the replies. :worship::worship::worship:
We can just stick to the green trails for a while, Right Rob! so many choices so little money!
235/75's. AAL in the rear is all i have. Long story! I know i'll be OK running 3.55's for a while on 31's but it may be a little on the sluggish side with 31's and 3.55's
OME coils and trackbar are waiting for me to buy leaf packs and a couple other things then its gonna be around 3 inches.

I heard somewhere that 3:55s and 35s were a good combination...
Yea but only if ya run 3:55 in the front and 4:10 in the rear....
my .02 cents. Skip the gears. if you don't plan to go 32 or larger for a long time, then stick with what you got. Plate the frame rails, rock rails, winch, front bumper, rear bumper, heavy duty steering, massive track bar, non vacuum d30, 297 front u joints, front locker, skid plates, etc... FIRST. Just an opinion. Bigger you are, the harder you fall, and body armor would be nice.
Protecting and preserving the XJ really needs to be first priority when dealing with a daily driver that you plan to keep.
Big Hank, over and out
p.s. I run 4.56's w/36" TSL's...........4.88's would be nice
your difficulty is getting into the drivers seat right?
getting out, gravity is your friend.
you can research some good tips on trimming your fenders the right way.
I think you could fit 33's with a three inch lift.
tires is what gets you clearance. If you can fit 33's, you'll be good. regardless of the lift size.

Well I have a lot of armor on my Jeep. (except no bumpers)...( i heard 2x4's were great though) The weak point I look at when I see my jeep now is the gearing. I really want to lock the front, but I want gears so I don't have to redo the locker. From what I have read, If I ever decide to go to 33's 4.56 will still be good gearing for it!
