Oil pump priming issue

Hi all
I have just rebuilt a 4.0 for the XJ and i was just priming the engine oil before install.
Problem is I'm getting no oil at the top end.
I am using a drill on the pump through the dizzy hole.
if i remove the oil pressure sender i get a good amount of oil out of it.
But for several minutes of pumping...nothing at the rockers.
I installed new lifters which i filled with oil.
I am using penrite running in oil.
The rod tubes aren't blocked. I checked on install.
It's a new high volume pump.

I really don't understand and it's supposed to be going in this weekend.

Any ideas please?

I was thinking crankshaft. It needs to rotate, slowly, as to open oil orifices. Then also, slowly, as to not sling the break-in grease on the cam lobes.

Do you have the valve cover off so you can see any oil being pumped up thru any of the push rods? At least two or more lifters would be aligned with the oil galley holes! I prime my stroker every day before the first start and I can hear the oil as the system gets charged up as I can reach about 30psi with the engine off(no cranking).
