ok so i was peeking through my latest issue of Petersons photographic magazine when a particular project caught my eye. you take some real pretty colors and slap them all willy nilly on a piece of anything. i had my girlfriend slap some on an 8.5X11 piece of paper. then you take a shallow cristal clear bowl with some water in er and then pour about .5oz or so of vegi oil in and stur it up. you'll want to set the bowl about a foot and a half to two feet above the painting and light the colors really well with either an off camera flash or some good flashlights. aim the light at painted on paper and focus on the oil droplets. a macro lens is useful though any lens that is capable of focusing close will do. i used a nikkor 18-55mmVR set to 55mm and manual focus, attached to a NIKON D60 in manual mode and had some fun. here are the resulting images, hope you enjoy :eeks1:

so, what do y'all think. pretty huhh.

lol a big one. the 4th one up on the lower left looks like a smiley. its hard to keep them things out of stuff lol.

Lol I know what you mean. I find my dog's hair in everything. No literally, everything. I can take something out of the freezer and it'll have dog hair in it. I've given up trying to avoid it.

x2 on the dog hair - but you love them so much you don't even notice it after a bit huh?

juniorXJ -I saved them all and have them on my HD flat panels as wallpaper - they really look cool side by side on dual monitors.

Thanks!

holy macro haha

i have husky fur on things that havent even left the store yet...that shit gets EVERYWHERE!

Do you have a photo of the set up?

Nice shots. Looks a little dark to me, but that might just be my crappy monitor.

Man, that would make such a mess if it spilled...

I need to try this.

If i try it it woudl be with my 35mm and auto bellows. I guess when I got it developed I could have them scan it.

there is another one with food color i want to try. not to sure what im going to put the water in though.

IIRC, that's how they used to do those 60's visual affects. A bowl, water, oil and a overhead projector.

However, if you mix water and oil in a crankcase, you get a much less photogenic affect ;)
