Off Road Adventures...

Ok I hate to complain about a free mag but I am about sick of this rag. I started noticing over the last year the increase in amount of Toyotas in the mag. First I just thought it was hype since the new FJ came out. But FJ has to be one of most girly looking ugly 4x4s I have ever seen. There is only a handfull of people making aftermarket for Toyota compared to Jeeps and other Domestics. But yet the mag had 30 pages (in newest issue) of with pics of Toyotas out of 100 pages. They sent me notice this was my last issue a couple months ago. I was so happy but it is still coming. :bawl:4 wheel parts needs to change the name to Toyota Off Road Adventures.

Perhaps they've done some market research into who is buying product from their company and maybe that research indicates that a large portion of their money comes from Toyoyta owners? I've never heard anyone on this board encourage people to shop there for Jeep merchandise. If this is the case...it makes perfect sense to me. Cater to the market that supports your business?

I just think Toyota funnels money there way. I don't think they sell that much Toyota stuff. Jap company figures if people see enough pics of the hideous FJ wheeling maybe people will buy them. Only people I see driving them are women. I wouldn't be caught dead in one. Now they are starting do alot write ups on the new Tundra. Like anyone is going to lift one of those??? Only people I see driving the new Tundras are old men and Yuppies. I saw a new Tundra broke down on I225 last Sat morning. I was like amazed. I am very anti Toyota right now because of all the Hybrids they are building. My dad bought one I wanted to disown him.

I know I will have the last laugh. When people stop buying them. And his new highlander isn't worth crap.

That's exactly my point. IF Toyota is "funneling money" their way, then why wouldn't they showcase them the most in their publication? If it was me, I sure wouldn't showcase a vehicle that isn't made anymore when I have a company giving me money (if that is, in fact, what's happening).

Personally, I like the new Tundras. It's on my list of possibilities after grad school. I'm not old and, according to my bank account, I'm definitely no yuppie. But, then again, I also wouldn't mind heated leather seats and I love my GPS and creature comforts and I've been called a pu$$y for that before.

Just curious...in this day and age...why would you be unhappy with a company investing more into hybrid technology? It's good for the environment that you and I enjoy exploring in our SUV's. I mean...I don't think I'd buy a hybrid myself (although I really haven't researched them...I probably should so my raise after grad school seems bigger).

I guess I just don't get arguments like this. I don't like dually pick ups or bait casters. I don't have to like them. I don't have any need for either. I also don't live 40 miles from work where it would be nice to have something that got 45ish miles to the gallon.

Hybrids good the enviroment my a$$!! It takes 50% more energy to make a Prius then it takes to make H1 Hummer. The plant that mines and smelts the nickel for the batteries has 5 mile radius with no life. NASA test the moon rover there. So if there is no life near the plant imagine the life that is near the plant that survives. Then when you battery takes a dump in your hybrid that is destorying the planet what do you have. A toxic pile of waste. Acid in those giant batteries can eat your skin off. I don't think I want Bambi licking the stream when someone gets into accident and crap spills all over the road. Yeah they save gas but big deal when a new battery is 5000 bucks. I can buy alot gas for 5k. Internal combustion engine is where it is at. We need to work on new fuels not crappy hybrids. Also if you have hybrid your mileage on the hwy is the same as Civic or worse. Only time they save gas is sitting in traffic or driving in town. I could go on for hours.
That is why I would not buy a Toyota they just spent 7 billion on hybrid tech. When they start putting the facts in the brochure with pic of Nickel plant then I will start liking them alot more. Bunch of blind tree huggers who don't look at the facts and run out and buy a gimmick. If you want to help envi go plant a tree. Or pick up some trash off the side of the road.
One more thing Dualies rock!!

Here is story about the great new Tundras and there crap engines.

Dude...this kinda sh!t happens all the time with new vehicles. Are you serious?

Like I said, I have not researched hybrids. I'd love to see some data supporting what you've hinted at with regard to their production.

I still say...if you don't like Toyotas...don't buy one. My girlfriends pumps look uncomfortable and completely impractical for what I do (unless I'm street-side) so I don't wear them. I just get tired of hearing about what other people don't like (be it vehicles, gay rights or fruit juice) when it honestly doesn't remotely effect their day to day life. But...that's when I need to point the finger at myself in blame for I am the one reading it ya know?

Doesn't happen with Toyotas they are the best.:laugh2:

Stang...what's the poop on the batteries cuz now I'm intrigued and tired of eating cake. Toyota says the batteries used in the 2000 Prius (which looks butt ugly...I'll give ya that) is designed to last 150-200,000miles and they claim they haven't replaced one for wear and tear yet.

They also say the batteries they use are Nickel metal hydride (non-benign) not the rechargable Nickel Cadmium ones found in other vehicles. Supposedly, they put a phone number on each battery and there's a $200 bounty for each one to ensure it is recycled appropriately. (Now Troy will start having a second lot full of Prius' for the batteries.)

They say they have plans for a hybrid dually. Now THAT would be cool. :D

This one was good as it relates to the Prius. I guess the issue with the batteries is just the simple fact that it uses Nickel then? OK.

I still say you're being nitpicky (IMO) on the Tundra cam issue though but you've gained some ground with the Prius argument. I'm sure there have been loads of recalls or issues with many domestic vehicles. You're just not down with Toyota and that's fine.

Oh God....you're here. :D

Hey...I gotta go get more cake.

I don't think I would take Toyotas word on anything. The Prius was built to be Hybrid. The new Hybrids have been converted from gas to gas/elec. Those are cars I am waiting to see how long they last. They are heavier and take alot more juice to run. Most people who can afford a Prius or any Hybrid can afford to take care of the service costs. So chances are they will last a long time. Now if some poor a$$ like myself bought one I could not afford the service. So the battery would take dump sooner. Nickel is Nickel doesn't matter what you mix it with still toxic.
