Obd2 (96) cruise

As we know, info on pre 97 cruise is hard to come by. Here is the situation, my new rhd is a 96 poverty spec from japan, my old, totaled one is a rhd 95 country, also from Japan. Will the cruise from the 95 work with the computer in the 96? Instinct says yes since the gauge clusters will swap.

Well I swapped in all my 95 cruise components into the 96 and got nothing. Cruise worked before, switched switches, clock spring and put the underhood module and vacuum line in. Plug was there as expected, associated wires were there for the clock spring. The only thing I'm not sure on is no diagram shows a cruise fuse, where does it get power?

I added fuses in the 96 where there was none, but the 95 had them. no change other than my power antenna got sucked down.

Did some more research, looks like early 96 had its own specific switch set and clock spring.

Any idea what defines "early '96" vs "late '96"? I.e. what month would be the cut-off?

I experienced this when I added cruise to my '96, but that was just shy of ten years ago so I don't remember the details. I think the difference was a momentary contact versus push on/push off to power the system.

Late had the 97+ type where the horn buttons are on earlier ones. early looks like the 95 down but has a green led on it.

The more I look around, I think maybe my 95 clock spring will work, I just need the buttons and I have found a guy willing to send me ones off a 96 hes parting out.

Interesting. Would the late version then have a non-mechanical airbag?

I will have to keep my eyes out for a late '96, just to see what is different.

Well I received my 96 specific buttons, that I have video of them working, and conformation of the correct wire colors, AND I paid way too much for; and it still doesn't work. The light doesn't even come on. I'm dumbfounded. The only thing I can think of now is the under hood module has to be 96 specific. But I would think the light should at least come on.
