OK, so I know that the check engine light is from an O2 sensor, but how do I tell which one? What's the best way to test them?

What year?
CEL? If yes, what is the code?
(FYI, Bank 1 is upstream of the Cat, Bank 2 is downstream)
Have you checked the fuse for the O2 Heater Circuit?

It's a 2000.
Not sure what the code was. I was on my way to Big O to get some oil/brake/etc service when it came on. It was running normal as far as I could tell, and guessed that it was the O2 sensor. I asked them if they could check the code, they did, and confirmed that it was O2, but I didn't get the code from them. Doh!
They cleared it for me and it was fine for the rest of the eve and the 20 mi. drive to work this morning, but it came back on the way home. From that I would assume that the fuse is OK, but I'll check it to be sure.
Which code means what? Those guys are pretty cool over there, I'll drop back by and see if they can get me the code.

If the CEL comes on again ask the counter guys to print out the results.

You can also swing by most Autozone / Checker / Advanced and they'll bring their scanner out to the car and tell you the code. If you do replace it yourself rent the tool from the store while you're there, makes it much easier.

OK....this situation get a big 'WTF?'!!!
So I get underneath to check things out, make sure nothing was physically going on like wiring/etc and WHOA! Almost get it in the eye by something....
I turn my head back and :wow:!!! I had to blink real hard to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing. There, hanging from the just behind my transfer case is a wire harness. Yes, you're thinking 'What an idiot', which is OK cause I thought the same thing. But then I started to wonder how the $@#$ it got that way?
That harness connects ABOVE the axle in that little 4" space between the axle and the floorboard, and they don't just slide together, they CLIP!. The likeliness that I somehow snagged it with something? Yeah right. Seems like this was something that would have to be done on purpose, and I haven't done any work on the Jeep in a few months.
How could that have happened?!!! GRR!! Oh well....It's fixed, for free even!

Cool Todd, thats the best kind. When I was swapping out O2 sensors I had a heck of a time getting that clip, clipped. I could see how over time it could work loose.
