**NWChapter Random Thoughts Thread***

Thinking out loud here.
Here's what I'm thinking. I'm going to mount the rack off the factory rack holes. I'm worried about body flex and if the rack is straight Bolted to the roof it's gonna tweak stuff, possibly crack the sheet metal roof, distort the threaded holes etc. Plus, the threaded insert thingy is raised up above the roof. (See picture) so I'm thinking I'm gonna take some flat plate, run it the whole length of where my factory rails went, but I'm gonna make the holes big enough to put a grommet it that'll just fit over the raised up inserts. Then I'll get some longer bolts, and when I put it on I'm going to use a bunch of thread locker to keep water out and also to keep the bolts from backin out. That way if the roof does flex, or it gets pushed, or whatever it'll have have a little flex room. And, hopefully, it'll keep the plate from rubbing on the paint and wearing it down. Plus I'll put some weather strip between the plate and roof to keep it from wearing paints, and vibrating

Tiss the season of change..

Sold my red trailer last month, sold my camper last week
And now I'll be listing my truck for sale this week..

And I have 11 days of work left and I'll be unemployed..

Anxious for the next adventure:lickout:

When I built my rack I started with the mounts, gutter mounted and as low as I could get it. It worked out. Down side was with the rack on I couldn't get in the garage.

My rack wasn't quite straight when I put it on and eventually it broke my drip rails off, even with four mounts on each side to distribute the weight

Lost my job today...... personality differences. I won't take disrespect from no one.

Owner of the company told me i was fired over the phone @ 1130am. after being sent home @ 7am.

Got a new job over the phone with a buddy @2pm. Machinist apprentice in Canby OR. Starts at 8am tomorrow morning.

Haha 2.5hrs unemployment...... not bad!

I used 4 old style jcr mounts per side with the intent of adding a piece of angle iron and bolting to the factory roof rack rails too. I never did tho. Its strong as hell but if the gutters come off its worthless without the factory mounting points. I originally had rub rails on it like rock sliders (tree sliders) but i couldn't get the ends right and i dont have any way to make corners so i cut the rails off. Ive since found pre bent corners at the steel yard but it hasn't been a priority. Any way its a low ass rack and sturdy (70#) so maybe it'll give you an idea or something lol.

Awesome stuff my wife is carrying a son for me!!!

Back to the WJ world they are pretty nice looking and if we go for a 6 I could already replace it with my 93 h.o. stash if it has issue's. We found one real decent price right near us.

I've been thinking of tree rails for awhile now I'm sick of ripping my gutters off lol.

I really like how low that is. That is the direction I'm wanting to go. I want to be able to carry stuff up there, and mount my hi lift and shovel. But I don't need it to be a foot tall ya know? I might try to incorporate both like demoniod said earlier, but we'll see if I feel that motivated

Damn!...well sorry to hear about the loss, but congrats on the lateral move and what is probably the shortest period of unemployment ever! :D

Bad rings? Threads were a little oily...

Either that or valve seals. Hope for those not rings.

The WJ 4.0 blocks are completely different, accessory mounts moved all around and so did the block mount boss locations. I forget if brown dog makes a motor mount set for XJ engine in WJ but the accessories are probably still gonna curse you.
