NWC Picture of the day

Re: NWC Picture of Day

Taking the Conelius Pass Rd. off-ramp on my way to work this morning...I hear this *CLUNK*CLUNK*CLUNK*CLUNK*CLUNK*CLUNK......
Pull into the Chevron right there and found THIS:

Limped it the extra mile into work, and now have to figure out how i'm gonna fix this.:helpme:

:flamemad:(I JUST REPLACED these like SIX FRICKIN MONTHS AGO!) :flamemad:

Re: NWC Picture of Day

Sweet!
That solves half the problem.
I dont mind going on lunch (or whenever) to the parts store though.
Parts I'm not TOO terribly worried about....
Its how i'm going to get the axle out while i'm here at work.
(we have some Arbor presses here that should do the trick for pressing out the old and the new in)...but I need to get it out of the vehicle first.

Re: NWC Picture of Day

Zip tie it up and drive it home. I did that on an old dodge I had when I was at the coast. Made it all the way to salem! 2 zip ties in a X pulling it tight against the opposite cap. You will make it home.

Re: NWC Picture of Day

OH NO! They DID!
When I did the swap I even made sure that the recess was clean of debris and what-not.
The C'clip/snap-ring must've failed or something.
Honestly I have no idea what happened. I just hope I dont have to replace the outer shaft.

josh, if you get a whole replacement shaft inner/outer from the JY you can just slide it in and bolt it all back up and be good.

Re: NWC Picture of Day

You won't have to replace the stub shaft. I had a friends kid drive all the way back from Sisters with a missing cap. He told me I keep hearing this clunking noise. I looked under neath, yeah a clunking noise ya think.

Re: NWC Picture of Day

Crazymoose is gonna swing by at lunch with some tools that I dont have with me, and help me knock this out.

Re: NWC Picture of Day

After running and getting a couple new U-joints yesterday, I tried to opt for a quick fix and replace JUST the missing cap and ring, as the rest of the joint looked just fine.
Once I did though, I saw the reason that the previous cap had ejected itself.
(note the gap on the left side)

Apparently the yoke on the short shaft side had one of the ears stretched out. Honestly it was probably like this for a while, but slowly getting worse and worse since that one night up at BPB's and the 20 tons of press force it took to get the OEM joint out.

We (crazymoose & I) ended up heading out to 205 Auto Salvage http://www.205autosalvage.com/
where I have gone several times for JY Jeep parts. They have the largest inventory of XJ's anywhere in the area. Ended up running into Ryan R. from Bri & Bub Offroad down there...funny seeing another Jeeper I know out of the blue at the JY like that.
Cori has taken good care of me there in the past because I've sent her so much business over the years. This time was no exception. I ended up pulling out a whole PS shaft assembly (outer/bearing/joint/inner) and got it for a great discounted price. Even got a free T-shirt out of the whole deal!
Came back to work, and opted to install the whole JY assembly instead of wasting the time (right now) rebuilding it all. - I'll do that at home this weekend.
The drive home proved that the JY parts were good enough to commute on, at least for the rest of the week. I really have no intentions of testing their integrity on the trail....so the rebuild will happen sooner than later. I'll keep the old parts as emergency trail spares.
>
I want to make sure that Jason (crazymoose) gets a HUGE THANK YOU for coming out and helping. Although his bruised leg prevented him from doing much wrench turning (its a one man job really anyways) ...his arrival with jack, stands, and a few of the larger sockets I didn't have with me, plus the ride to & from the JY, proved to be the difference between getting this job done, and the Jeep sitting for gawd knows how long here at my work.... So thanks again brother.... I owe you one!

No thanks is needed I'm glad I could help out Josh, you did forget the best part though. That yummy burrito from Salsa Market, wished I could eat one of those everyday.
So no more rescues for me I have a temp job that starts today, yup I'm a gopher for Platt Elecrtic. It pays peanuts but its better than a hole in a head at this point, maybe it will go somewhere?
