I would like to pick up some hood vents for my XJ. I am not interested in the ghetto fab home HVAC vents (although i do admire your creativity :patriot:) so please don't recommend them lol.

I am trying to decide between the following

Run Cool Medium Louvers for $179

OR

GenRight 2pc Short Louvers for $59

http://www.genright.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=LVR1005#.U620L_ldWSo

Has anyone run these, specifically the genrights? Ive heard great things about the RunCool, but thats awfully steep compared to the genright ones. If they cool (or almost just as well), I would love to save $120 bucks.

I'm running GenRight Long louvers on my hood. http://www.genright.com/Jeep-Hood-Louvers.aspx#.U63Ju_ldW1U

They come powdercoated black, I'll be painting mine to match the hood.

Did you notice a drop in underhood temps with them in that location? I was planning on center hood near the cowl but I like that look.

Yes, the underhood temps are cooler. The rear of the hood is a great place for vents as well, but you'll want to build shields underneath so your TPS sensor doesn't get wet.

if you paint 'em to match mine, I'll give you a couple extra bucks......

(it's glamor turquoise metallic with clear coat, if you'd forgotten....)

:scottm:

P.S. you should try some ghetto fab home HVAC vents

I knew shorty had to troll at some point :) ill mail you the hvac vent I bought at Lowe'sa couple months ago. I just couldn't bring myself to cut holes in the hood for them lol.

Used some ebay specials 2 for 20 shipped. No pics sorry but they look a little nicer then the hvac units. Temps deff decreased and you can feel heat pouring out of them once you stop.

Update, painted and installed the louvers. they look awesome, and although i dont see a decrease on the coolant temp gauge (not that i really expected to), I definitely can tell the motor isnt suffering from heat soak nearly as bad, and i can feel the heat coming out of the vents, even with the battery/airbox largely blocking them. A Battery relocation could certainly improve the efficiency 10 fold.
