My friend has a 2002 ford explorer sport. Its a 2wd and he wants to put 33s on it. He does not want to do a body lift only a suspension lift. How much lift will he need to do and who sells the most economical lift for this type of rig? Thanks for any help.

x2 on www.explorerforum.com I'm a member over there and have recieved great info on my two Explorers.

I owned an 03 Explorer and currently own an 07 Explorer. I looked into lifting it until I saw the cost. The 3rd and 4th gen Explorers have Independed supsension front and rear. Going big enough to fit 33's on an Explorer requires a lot of lift due to the small fender openings. Putting a BIG lift on IFS front and rear will kill any budget. Also, hacking into the Explorer fenders isn't nearly as easy as an XJ or as clean. It really makes no sense to go with 33's on something that has little if any potential as a trail rig. If he wants to just go with bigger tires for the look and stay cheap then their is really one option. There are a couple companies that make a 2.5" front 1.5" rear spacer lift that mounts on top of the struts that costs between $250-$350. It will allow clearance for up to a 32" tire. I may go that path eventually just so I can run a larger tire and get a little more ground clearance for when we get snow.

Tell him I'm sorry :D

x2 on that. I hated my first explorer and i hate the 2nd one even more. My wife has some obsession with them and we made an agreement that if I bought another Jeep (my current XJ) then she could could pick out any car she wanted (within our budget). She has chosen an explorer twice now. Stupid 07 is already having tranny issues. Piece of crap. I still can't belive I sold my built FJ80 land crusier for an Explorer.
