Hi all,
I did some searching and found the issue with the vapor lock hard starting issue, but mine seems at bit different.
My issue just started several days ago.
On a cold morning I can start my 98 (4.0-auto-160k) and it starts fine. I can drive around 30 minutes and shut it off. Then it will either sluggishly turnover or not turnover at all. The starter doesn't seem like it's getting enough juice.
Battery tests fine. Tune up over last 6 months. Runs pretty well hot or cold.
I'm guessing the starter is failing due to heat soak or the cables to the starter have some bad connections or corrosion.
Is this a common problem on XJs?
