Yesterday was the worst day of our move so far. I finally got four people (yes four people were required), all with difference areas of expertise, in the same room to determine if my XJ would be legal for import.
The outcome was that it was legal for import, it would pass inspection, but the first time a police officer saw it on a public street, I would be pulled over, ticketed and have the registration taken. Then I would need to have it reinspected, pay the fine, and go to Italian court to get my registration back.
If it were just a fine, I would just pay it and be done. It will cost me $100/mo to store it anyways, so a fine wouldn't be any difference on my wallet. Add in the court and reinspection though and I have no interest in dealing with it.
So here's what I need. I like the look of the XJ as it sits, without fenders. I've tried the Bushwacker flat fenders and they don't fit. I don't mind having tube fenders made, but haven't really seen any that really impress me. A lot of Europeans seems to use the garden edging type fenders to cover their tires. I could do this, but wouldn't want it to be permanent as I don't think I would keep it once returning to the states.
So what do I do? Store it, tube fender it, garden edge it, or something else? I need 7" of coverage in the front and 5" in the rear.
