Hey, did you all know that not all Cherokee's are 4 wheel drive??????

That's what I get for not looking before bidding.......... :twak:

That is all. :D

nice, I have a similar paperweight sitting in my garage.:looney:

You'd think I woulda noticed something missing when I poked my head inside it just before bidding.......

Lemme tell ya, that was a bad Monday..... I go to the auction in the morning, there's TONS of bidders, everything is going for more than it's worth.... but I'm there on a mission to buy one, hopefully two specific XJ's....... but before the auction even gets close to those XJ's...... my cell phone rings..... the DA's office wants me in last minute to testify in a DUI case....... on the way up there, I get caught in those fierce winds and the truck gets majorly sand blasted, windshield is toast, I haven't brought myself to look at the paint yet........ then I get to court at 11:30 as requested...... only to find out that they're running over on time and they won't get to me until after the lunch break..... I testify at 2pm, get back to Klode's at 2:30..... I talk to a "regular" about the 2 XJ's I had wanted to bid on, but they'd long since been sold, and for way more $$$ than I woulda spent anyway so I walk around to see if there's anything else worth buying..... get out-bid on two other parts XJ's...... and I win the bid on the very last XJ on the run......

And it's a fawkin' 2 wheel drive.......

I guess it was bound to happen sometime huh? :D

At least this boo-boo didn't involve firearms or moving vehicles.

Is it my imagination, or do prices run inverse to the temperature?

Josh,

Absolutely! The t-case is yours! I've already pulled it and it's the ultra light version - real easy to tote around! Fits in your pocket even! Seems like everything you buy from me ends up being $100, so let's keep the trend going...... :D

Jacobs,

It's all yours buddy! The axles turn so easily you'd swear there was no differential or driveshaft connected to it! :D

Mike,

I'm beginning to think the temperature definitely does affect the auction prices...... for the last 2 weeks, the weather sucked on those Mondays, so I imagine several buyers were a little behind on building their inventories.... And there's definitely a core group of power-buyers every week - the auctioneers know 'em by name and even call out to them if they thing the power buyer is missing out on a deal..... I think I'll stick to Craig's......

On a serious note..... I'm wondering if I should keep one of those hub bearings with the stub plug in it for the trails...... in case someone busts a shaft and there isn't a spare available..... Hmmmmm.

Now that's funny! :D

Yup,

I bought a '93 2WD from Tennessee.

Standard trans with power nothing & no extras.

That sucker consistently got 22-24 mpg.

I sold it 2 years ago.

It was funny going into parts stores and into the dealer for parts.
I had to repeat over and over that it was a 2WD, and they were like "WTF? There is no such thing!" :D

===

The guy at the Pro Jeep parts counter told me a story about how they had hired a big-shot buyer from a Toyota dealership. He bought 12 jeeps from a Texas auction (site unseen) at a "GREAT PRICE" and had them trucked up to Denver. Well guess why they got them so cheap? 2WD - every one of them! :roflmao:

Not a bad idea, but why not just pull the unit bearing and shaft, stuff the axle with a Wal-mart sack and a rag, duck taped in place. Take the u-joint out and put the unit bearing back in?

Yeah, it looks like a cake mixer going down the road, but only if you're just to the inside of the tire as it is passing over ya.....

True........ I guess I've never seen a shaft break where you couldn't just use the stub shaft even with busted ears on it.

Meh.... it was a thought.

(Now being critical of myself for being out-thunk by Daryl...... :D)

I have a set I keep in the Jeep for spares. Its a lot easier to pull the entire shaft and unit bearing and simply replace with a new one then it is having to take apart a Ujoint and putting the axle back in.
